You do have the digital roadsurge box.And it has done it more than once.
Did you talk to Tim? The owner of the roadsurge box?
KABOOM! Damn, you can hear that screaming loud and clear. That is one hell of a dump... I bet you almost wound up tasting steering wheel when that happened. I'm suprised you didn't have an obvious secondary failure of the driveline.
Im new to the auto game..Do you have a link to one? I dont want to manually shift it though at the track
Thanks for that. I don't want to shift the tranny unless I have to. First I would like to speak with Tim @ roadsurge to see if there is anything he can do to help fix the resetting problem.Man that really sucks, I hope the damage is minimal. I was thinking about trying one of those road surge boxes a while ago, but eff that now! I've been using a hurst ratchet shifter with the gear selector wired up the Kiggly manumatic way. I also like having control of when I shift, makes it a little more fun. Plus it's so easy, just click the ratchet stick forward when the shift light comes on.
I use this shifter, got it used for like $70 on ebay:

Could it be a faulty power source? Ive never worked with one but coundnt that reset it?
. The rod bearings were pretty chewed up as well. The rods and pistons still look brand new though. Im probably going to slap some new bearings in and put it back together. I work out of state for 6 months and leave the end of feb so I want to make some more passes before I leave. I have another block and crank that I will be putting together a high comp aluminum rod motor while Im gone.I have a few 6 bolt blocks if you need one. ANY motor can walk! Now thats 2 6bolts I know of this month that have walked.
.It sucks this has happened! Because of this issue, all the new ones default to third gear on reset. You can also send in your old one and I can reprogram it to default to 3rd gear on reset as well.
This is the first time in 3 years this has happened that I have heard of with the digital version. The newest version comes with RPM downshift protection, 3rd gear default, and a lifetime warranty.
Once richard33's box has been tested and diagnosed, I will update this thread if that is ok with you richard33...
Another update...
Went for a 150 mile road trip to a job site driving with Richard's setup installed in my car. Everything was good and the shifts were working perfectly. I did have one problem where a wire broke loose from a crimp connection on the external shifter setup, but I patched it up and it worked for the rest of the trip. The wire used is extremely small and easily broke so once I got home, I soldered a thicker wire to prevent future problems. I will go for another test drive tomorrow to ensure everything is working 100% and will be shipping it back out on Monday as long as everything goes well.
To those who are scared of using the roadsurge shift box because of this issue...
This problem did not happen because of the shift box itself. It was because the shift box was opened and modified from a previous owner. Some solder connections were not done properly for the external display mod as well as the power source the shift box was on was getting feedback from other components on the same circuit called flyback voltage. As stated above, to prevent further issues, all shift boxes are programmed to start in 3rd gear unless another gear is requested.
This was the first shift box ever sent back for any issue in over 3 years.
glad to hear all was resolved!
