in case you are not yet sold/married to the project, i provide you with this...

i know several club members on this and other gvr4 and 1/2 g forums that went this route only to end up wishing they did 2.0 4g63 swap instead.

:ohdamn:

Dude I will give you some Honest DSM to DSM advice

The 1.8L is wasted money if you want performance.

I had a 1.8L, and dumped a good 1000$ into it and it still was still 10 times slower then my xgf's 115hp VW New Beetle Automatic.

for 500$ you could swap a 2.0L n\t

or

sell your 1.8L and buy a 2.0 n\t or Turbo DSM

I picked mine up for 1000$ with a good amount of mods, and runs great for the most part.

BUT

If you REALLY are just sold on 1.8L because of Supernatural reasons....

Build the motor to hell, and go turbo, thats the best way you'll see a hp increase, but the motor will last you a total of 10k miles IF your lucky.

Try DSM1Eights.org
or
4G37tuners

im not really bent on performace............... just was throwing it out there because many people say there are none

There is a reason there is none out there. most people go bigger engine not smaller. The only reason you would build a engine like that is for some type of racing class that limits you to that size. For a street car why spend a ton of money to make little hp and have something with little resale value.

i had a 1gb 1.8L and i drove it for about 8 months and sold it a bought a 90 laser rs turbo because i couldnt stand how slow it was, ## better off getting the 4G63T and building tht ### those 1.8s are fragile and theres not alot of moding you can do to it without blowing it up

4G37's are good for 30plus mpg and surburban driving.

Had two of them, and true they were fun to drive when they are tuned correctly and left alone in stock form -(my daughter has my first one with almost 198k miles on it and still running great), but now, have more fun with my Ply Turbo ...

Can agree with everything but the fragile part.

my experience with 1.8L's is they are very reliable and durable.

for instance if the 1.8 jumps time or timing belt brakes, all you gotta do is slap on another.

but they are still rediculously slow. which spoils the good mpg and reliablity (but I think a 6 Bolt 4g63T or n\t is just as reliable as a 1.8
