This seems like a newbie type of question, so I'm asking here after searching for most of the morning...

My aftermarket intake cam shaft has no thread for the 2GB CAS bolt, what are my options? Buy new cam shafts, take it to a machine shop? *edit: 7 bolt, 99 GSX if it matters.*

Yeah have to be drilled and tapped. Just had to do this for a customer recently on their HKS camshaft

I've definitely got drills and a tap/die set... I may not have the skills, though... How square to the shaft does it need to be? 3D printer may need to go whirr and print me a drill guide...

And done!

I printed up a drill guide that did wobble a bit as time went on, but kept the drill square for the start and long enough to not end up with an oval... I ended up going in about 1 3/8" beyond where the chamfer starts near the CAS cup "ears." Tapped to 8x1.25 as directed.

Now I hope I got it positioned right for TDC... LOL

Thanks everybody!

When you get to it, the paint mark goes to the rear / intake / firewall side when aligning the cup when at TDC, just FYI. (It’s ~180 degrees out in your picture.)

Drill and tap by hand - No really. If you leave the cam gear attached, stand cam on solid ground on a piece of cardboard to protect the cam gear. The end you want to drill will be about knee height, stand on the gear with your foot, and drill straight down with the correct tap size - mark the depth on the drill needed with a bit of masking tape. Use a little tap oil to cool the drill bit, and clear the shaving often. Blow out all the shavings, and then use a tap and go to work - same idea, but use a hand tool to tap instead of a power drill.

My hero! The best I've found searching online is "if it doesn't work one way, flip it 180."

Great advice! Sadly, I lack cam gears at the moment... I drilled and tapped mine while it was still installed... Cleaned it out using a vacuum every couple presses with the drill, hand tapped with plenty of oil, and went after everything with a magnet to pick up anything I may have missed with the vacuum...

It sure does! I have no idea how I missed this in my searches...
