Alright I have a 98 GSX assuming it came with stock engine. So I ordered this 96-99 camshaft sensor I assumed the pic was wrong since when you click on the picture for the bigger version that's what mine looks like. So I'm guessing I need this one What does the 96-99 sensor do, I haven't seen one like that before because now I just have one laying around.

your first picture is the cam sensor, i had to replace mine in my car. the second picture looks like a crank sensor to me. I could be wrong, i havn't dealt with anything other than my 97 when it comes to sensors.

On a 98 you don't have a cam sensor that goes on the back of the intake cam. That is only reserved for 95-96 4g63 motors. The 95-96 motors have a crankshaft position sensor and a cam shaft position sensor on the timing side. 97-99 motors have the cam sensor opposite the timing side like the 1st generation 4g63 engines have. Hopefully that helps.

So I'm guessing one of the previous owners did an engine swap since I do have the cam sensor behind the intake came, does that mean it has a different ECU in it? Because I see its a different choice for DSMLink.

Thats a 7 bolt? Mine looks like this and only has the o2 sensor plug there.

Damn now I have to go and double check everything in chitlon because I assumed I had stock engine in my car.

I think you have a 95-96 motor in there. On the timing side where the cam sensor/crank sensor are plugged in you might want to see if the wiring harness was modified. Otherwise someone might have rewired the engine completely with the 95-96 harness. For the 95-96 cam sensor change you will have to remove the timing belt. Hopefully you can sort the issue out.

Can you post a pic of where the camshaft sensor is located? I need to replace mine and I am having a hard time finding it. Thanks.

For a '95-'96, look at the intake cam gear on the top head pictured below. The sensor is the thing with the wires running from it:

For '97+, see post #7.
