I have a 98 GSX not sure if it has rod knock or bad timing. Car ran fine up until I did a timing belt replacement. Timing was redone twice and still had this same issue. Car has no power and the knocking sounds like its coming from the cylinder head area. Not sure if it is rod knock or bad timing.

Just based on your description i'd guess that you're either off on timing or have bent valves. Rod knock generally doesn't create low power until the rods about to seize, but even a tooth off on timing will, bent valves obviously will. I have had some odd combustion popping out the intake on cars with the timing off. Post a picture of your timing marks

Will do thank you! i will try to take a picture this upcoming Monday.

If you did the balance shaft belt, did you put the crank position sensor disc back on in the right orientation?
how can I verify if its on in the right orientation? do you happen to have any pictures on what to look for? or how its supposed to be? Thank you!

Stick a screw driver in cylinder 1and turn the engine until you're at the crank timing mark, is the piston at TDC?

Video sounds far too fast paced to be rod knock, sounds like a valvetrain noise to me just based on the video

That's not rod knock. Pull the VC and see if anything is "obvious" in the valve train.

See if all of the valves are the same height and wiggle stuff to see if you can identify the obvious excessive lash somewhere. Sometimes the simple wiggle test can narrow it down. Maybe you have a collapsed lash adjuster. 🤔

Doing a compression test today. Plugs are out here's what they look like. Oil on cylinder 2 plug

They all look RICH to me. One looking oily/wet. Those have extremely small electrodes. Are they Iridium?

Here is what the compression test showed. Also spark plug from cylinder 2 had oil on it.

I dont think so. This is what I could find from what's on the spark plugs.

It was the dark black dry stuff on the plugs that looked like it was rich. You either have a leaky valve or the rings are shot in #2. I can't see 1 cylinder having a ring problem without the others so it could be a valve issue but its definitely WAY too low.

Is the #2 plug damaged? I can't tell from the angle. Regardless, your #2 cylinder has some issues. With oil on the plug I would guess piston rings, but maybe also bent valve(s) that shredded the valve stem seal.
NGK BPR6ES is the recommended plug for a stock or slightly modified turbo DSM (FYI).

What do you recommend me do from here? How can I tell if its bent valve or piston rings in cylinder 2?
