Yet another newb question.

Okay so i recently came across a 96 auto gsx for 700 with a blown hg and i have a 96 gst and i would love to convert my gst to a gst/x. I dont want to buy an awd car either so dont suggest that. I WANT to do the awd swap... How bad of any idea would it be to just buy a manual transmission and do the swap? I looked around and people say the gear ratios are different? I am also using the gsx's short block and i have a head ready to bolt on.. Should i do the swap with a manual awd transmission or should i get the manual transfer case and diff also?

Not sure what your saying. But I think that the transfer case is the same manual or auto is your car a manual or auto that should answer your question. If its an auto leave it auto if its a stick find you a manual trans for awd

Exactly what is the question then..At first it sounded like you were going to do the awd swap..Then I read on and it sounds like you want to do a manual swap in the auto..

Oh my bad..i want to do the awd swap into my manual gst. So would i have to buy the tranny, transfer case, and rear diff for the awd swap or just the manual tranny?

Leave it auto, and just swap everything over to your GST. Or, just fix the GSX with the blown headgasket and sell your GST

Keeping the auto isnt an option. And selling the gst isnt either...does anyone know if i would have to get a new transfer case and diff along with a manual awd tranny? Or are the auto transfer cases and diffs the same as the manual?

The transfer cases should be the same..But as far as the rearend goes, I know 1g auto's have different gear ratio's than the manuals do..And why wouldn't keeping the awd be an option? Just because you want to keep your gst isnt it?

Yeah pretty much. And the gsx is all riced out and i dont have the funds to bring her back to stock. It has an ugly bodykit and it was bondo'ed so it was one peice.
the main reason i want to keep the gst is because it was my first dsm and ill never get rid of it haha and plus i want to do the awd swap.. So the tcases are the same and the rear diffs are different?

something to consider is the cv axles. Correct me if I'm wrong but they are different for awd dsm's and fwd dsm's. Aren't the ecm's different as well? anyways my point being that it would be worth your money and time to just buy the entire car. IMO

I already have the cv axles. I already have the gsx in my driveway. I pulled the motor today and was wondering about the tcase and rear diff. I guess the tcase is the same manual or auto and the diffs arent. So Im going to buy the manual diff and the manual awd tranny. And convert.

If what I've read is right. You could do the swap to your manuel & make it an gst/x & to save the hassle wait until you find an GST AWD that's a wright off or cheap in order to find your Tcase match, allong with rear drive train
