y get dsm link?

i recently just purchaced another dsm this time an awd talon tsi...and i want to start tunning this car right. i was gana get a pigy back to manage my fuel system but i herd dsm link is alot better. my question would be is it worth the money and dose it come with its own ecu like the stand alone or is it a program that goes into my stock ecu?

dsm link is well worth the money. trust me when you start making some real power you'll be glad you bought it the first time.

It is a program on your laptop that reads and sets information to your car's computer through a chip that you insert into your car's computer. Only "Eprom" car computers can accept the chip, and those are found commonly on 1995 dms.

Its god that comes in a fancy little shock resistent box...to say the least. IMO it is the best buy for ecu tuning with a simple interface. Plus it has its own support forums run by the founders so no question will ever go unanswered/fixed/resolved.

I just ordered DSMlink last thursday, and got my forum access, and let me tell you, they are great! I think of them like dsmtuners#2 now.

Alot of help on those forums from what I can see, can't wait to have them help them with my tuning now

Why spend 250-300 on an EPROM and another 100+ for a piggy back that you cannot change, when you can get DSMlink and be able to forever change yourset up without having to tkae out your ecu and getting it reprogrammed? So much easier to do it right the first time in my opinion.

well if you choose to go the afc route you would still have to spend money on a data loger. the DSM link comes with everything you need except an EPROM. IMO DSM link is well worth it I made the mistake and bought an afc neo, and now Im not even going to install it Im saving up for DSM link.

I think you meant to say an EPROM ECU. The chip that is programmed from DSMlink is an EPROM.

I agree with Tom's post above. Do it right the first time.

If you are looking to really modify your car, then link is for you.

Like stated you need an EPROM ECU. If you have a 95 then most likely you do.

You can check if you have one by pulling the ECU out and taking it apart.

With the pins facing up, in the lower right corner. There is a chip on there, it should have an E on it with some numbers.

Unless your's is EPROM, you'll have to buy one anyways. If your's is, all you would have to do to go back to stock is switch chips, the guys at ECMtuning send you the stock chip back, so you can just unplug the DSMlink chip, plug in your factory chip and you're good to go.

You won't have one if you still have the stock ECU.

It will take a bit of reading, but DSMlink is very easy to tune with and if you don't know what you're doing, there's a whole host of people that are more than willing to help you.

I would suggest going here and download the program (called Full Install, v2.5.2.26) as well as the Users Guide. Read through the guide a few times to see what the program is about. Then go to the Log File Advice sub-forum (of Tuning & Engine Management) and download some of the logs people have posted up. They will have a .dat file extension. Then just play around with the program and see what it's all about.

As stated earlier, you can always take the DSMlink EPROM out and put the stock back in (just on the EPROM ECU though). Or if you wanted, you could take the whole EPROM ECU out and swap your ECU back in. Not sure why you'd ever want to go back to stock, other than to sell it though.

And you can find EPROM ECU's in the classified section here, on eBay, on dsmtrader.com, craigslist, etc.
