Ok, this is one of my first posts but I've been on here for a while, (i usually find that somebody's already answered my question)

Anyway, I have read lots of good stuff about the DSM Link ECU setup but it seems like everybody I've seen posting has a 4G63. I also went to dsmlink.com and didn't see anything that said I couldn't run it on a 420A, but there was lots of info on turbos and whatnot.

So like the title says, Can i get DSM Link on a 420A?

thanks, i knew the ecu's were different and i figured they only made the Link for the 4g63

bummer

do we ave anything similar for the 420a? all I've seen is the one from aem and it's like $1500 :(

thanks for the quick replies guys, I'll check out megasquirt. I've got tons of time to research and decide since I'm a broke college student LOL, :thumb:

i haven't had much time to look into this today but basically what can we do with these things?

do we get to feed them into the good old laptop and play around with it like the DSM Link guys or do we have to get it dyno-tuned or what?

Are they user friendly or do I need to schedule myself a college class to make any sense of it?

thanks boost, that's what it sounds like, I've accepted that i don't get to use dsmlink:cry:

i was just wondering what megasquirt or one of the others was like, if they are similar at all to dsmlink, how we interact with it and tell it what we want it to do, etc.

Actually megasquirt can be a full standalone depending on how much work you want to do. You can buy an assembled unit for +- $400-00 or assemble it yourself for $250-00. Can run full spark and fuel. At the moment there are 2 software programs, MegaTune, and MegaTunix that you run of your laptop with a standard DB9 cable. MS1 does have autotune capibilities if you use a wideband. Whats nice about Megasquirt is that it is open software so there are continually upgrades from within the Megasquirt community.

Okay, so in researching the Megasquirt on here I came across the AF/X ECU upgrade from Howell

Are any of you guys running that?
Street/strip or race version?

The Howell site description makes it sound like the AF/X ECU basically tunes itself  is that good enough if I stroke and turbo my motor or would that be beyond it's capabilities?

Also, since that's just an upgraded ECU I'm assuming there's no interaction with it on my part. Would it be possible to use something like Megasquirt with the AF/X ECU or is would that just be overkill.

Be prepared if you get anything from Howell you will be waiting about 6 months!!! at least! The megasquirt does not use your stock ECU for anything every signal gets tapped before the the ECU. So yeah the AFX ECU would be a waste of money since megasquirt does not interface with the stock ECU

LOL, the six month wait from howell works for me

i'll save up for my crate motor and clutch and maybe an LSD

then when i order from howell i'll have six months to save for my HRC stage 2 and maybe their portfueler setup :) that way i can put it in all at once and i don't have to exercise any willpower to make myself wait, i'll have no choice

oh, that too, anybody running megasquirt with their portfueler setup? how does that work?

ok, from looking around on here it seems like portfueller and megasquirt together is just not necessary, if it's even possible

but does portfueller allow any tuning or control spark/fuel cut and such, or is it just to feed the second set of injectors?
