I want to test my pcv valve under boost. Is there anyway I can get the turbo to boost by reving the engine under the hood?

I recently blew out my dipstick, I did a leakage test and my intake valves are sticking open a little so that would mean boost is getting in there when it shouldnt be right? Causing excess crankcase pressure.

My valve cover breather works fine, I pulled the pcv valve, I can blow through it easily, I also pulled the hose that goes from the pcv to the intake. I make sure it and both fittings where not clogged.

So, basically i want to have the engine under boost just for a second to see if the pcv blows off excess crankcase pressure. But being as there is boost in the intake that will keep the pcv from opening wont it? So my intake valves sticking open is what is causing excess crankcase pressure?

It's loud IMO when you recirculate, but after I went "blow-thru" I made my own intake and didn't bother making the recirc part and venting is LOUD. It was almost too loud for me but I've grown to like it :D

yeah thats what i was saying in my first post that its open at idle. but then defiant said the same thing that i just said. its just like my stocker on my supra its open at idle.

Ok. on my car, i took off the return hose from my bov, capped off the intake hole, and turned on my car. i revved it in neutral, and it built boost. i did this for a couple days.
i put the return hose back on and tried it again, and it didnt boost in neutral.

so its something about the air being recirculated and staying inside the same path?

IF the BOV opens at idle, it only lets the engine suck in a little air without having to draw it through the turbo and intercooler, and most of the piping. So long as you're not boosting, an open BOV is actually a slight benefit.
So allowing unmetered air into the engine is a benefit how?

Well yeah, true. But 90% of the people we're talking about here are dumb enough to vent. :D

And even if it is metered because of a blow-through setup, it's still not filtered.

If you're not venting and on stock mas, it's metered. If it's blow thru and venting, it's metered.

It's only unmetered if you're dumb enough to vent on the stock metering system.

Correction: its only unmetered air if you're dumb enough to vent *with a leaky bov at idle* on the stock metering system.

Aftermarket bovs are adjustable and should not leak at idle, so in that case air will not come in through the bov during idle or vacuum.

I can build about 12-13 psi of boost in neutral on my 14b in neutral at 4500 rpm........Oh yeah, that's cause of antilag with stutterbox on dsmlink......

I was going to say, if you're building that much boost then something had to be done, because on my big16g it can only get to 0 no matter what. Even so, you can still hear the BOV at 0, just not too loud, especially over the engine noise. I don't think it matters really, IMO it's better for that Honda youre racing against to hear the BOV as you leave them in the dust than while sitting still at a stop light...

"*with a leaky bov at idle*" <-- That's what the whole sub topic was about. Was this really necessary???

Lol you recirculate or do you vent? Is the type S easy to hear even when recirculated?
yesss i love the TYPE-S :thumb: I WILL NEVER CHANGE IT.. i vent to atom.. i know the risks guys so chill

i notice on alot of cars that pull up to me, and at the recent socal meet i went to, that people were reving up there cars... not moving... and you could hear their bovwhen they let off...

i know i have a stock 1g bov but when im driving it sounds nice enough, (considering im low on funds) but when just reving, i hear nothing and my boost guage shows zero boost when reving, even all the way up to 6.5k....

um even if i did get an after market bov, how would it make that psshhhhh! sound if there is no boost?

is there some technique that i have never heard of?

mine blew off around 4k i havent heard of it not doing it....maybe a vac or BOV problem? boost leak im not sure

i have the stock 1g bov and before i started venting, i don't think mine would blow off in neutral. i think the car had to be in gear, whether stopped or not, to blow off...

correct me if i'm wrong guys..

well yeah when im in gear or not... if i have the clutch in it still doesnt build boost

it's normal.. im 99.9% (dont forget, there's always that .01%) positive you shouldn't be able to build boost while in neutral.. and that PSSHING noise you hear isn't 'cause boost is being made, its just air being sucked in while revving, your car just isn't sucking like others.. i guess.. I DUNNO. someone w/ more technical and advanced knowledge of whats going on can probably explain better. All i can say is DONT WORRY ITS OK YOUR VEHICLES AREN'T BROKEN.

"and that PSSHING noise you hear isn't 'cause boost is being made, its just air being sucked in while revving" - joe039

i mean the blow off, when u let off the gas, not the whistle it makes when building rpms...

and saying our cars dont build boost in neutral, doesnt make sence as i saw at the dsm meet a couple days ago, just about everyone was able to blow off while in neutral, or with the clutch in

What is the definition of 'building boost'? If you are at 0psi on your boost gauge, you DO have air in intake piping, and it WILL blow off. Anything over idle vacuum is air to blow off, and yes you can floor it to 7000 just to be a ricer and hear your blow off valve. I'm sorry if you can't hear it, get an intake pipe and filter, or vent with a maft if you need to. No, it won't be as loud as full boost under load.

i have an automatic and mine blows off when i rev it. i have a hardpipe intake and a filter system with tubular headers, basically a 75% freed up intake and exhaust. i couldnt do it before when i was stock, but a filter upgrade as a K&N like mine should do it.
