I want to test my pcv valve under boost. Is there anyway I can get the turbo to boost by reving the engine under the hood?

I recently blew out my dipstick, I did a leakage test and my intake valves are sticking open a little so that would mean boost is getting in there when it shouldnt be right? Causing excess crankcase pressure.

My valve cover breather works fine, I pulled the pcv valve, I can blow through it easily, I also pulled the hose that goes from the pcv to the intake. I make sure it and both fittings where not clogged.

So, basically i want to have the engine under boost just for a second to see if the pcv blows off excess crankcase pressure. But being as there is boost in the intake that will keep the pcv from opening wont it? So my intake valves sticking open is what is causing excess crankcase pressure?

Building boost would be anything above 0 from 1psi and up. The blow off valve is blowing off the vaccume.

A guy I know in a gti if he even steps on it alittle bit you can hear the turbo spool up and blow off, It actually sounds crazy i love it.

In closing, 'Boost" is "More air than the pistons can get away from". It's difficult to build boost when there's no load on the drivetrain, because there's nothing other than the reciprocating parts of the engine and its ancilliaries keeping the engine from revving up, and allowing all the boost to escape into the engine and out the exhaust rather than building.

It beats the holy living hell out of an engine. Boosting in first is almost no better.

Good night, and seeya in the "What's this knock?" thread.

Oh, and yes, this answer has been given before, but some little pansies get their delicate little purple petals bruised if we suggest you try looking up the good information that has already been supplied.

if you have a aftermarket turbo and cant build any boost at around 6000rpm you are probably a candidate of a boost leak.. before i couldnt bbuild anything either on idle in neutral.. i fixed all my leaks got all hard piping T bolt clamped em down hard now at 6000rpm i built 10psi in neutral so im sure if you got a aftermarket turbo and cant build nothing on idle you have boost leaks

i can rev mine to about 5k and build 8psi at 5k, if i go higher i have reached 12psi no problem. I have a 95 stick, hard Ic pipes, Injen intake, Turbosmart MBC, Greddy type-s BOV recirc., thermal 3" cat back. I was running 15psi before the clutch started slipping. My friends VW golf will build more boost then stock in neutral. I think maybe you have a boost leak.

i know for a fact i have no boost leaks didnt you read my post man? i just got done doing a boost leak test at 30psi... not 1 leak and i have produced just 5minutes ago at 7k rpm 15psi boost in neutral i know i got no boost leaks i just did all my hard piping and tightened the hell out of it with T bolt clamps.

I dont know, I cant build boost in neutral with my T04b.. I cant build full boost in 1st gear neither i dont think there is enough load on the engine.

Yeah, somthing tells me I won't be able to neutral boost anymore when she's up again. :D (Same turbo as ^^)

I was going to say, if you're building that much boost then something had to be done, because on my big16g it can only get to 0 no matter what. Even so, you can still hear the BOV at 0, just not too loud, especially over the engine noise. I don't think it matters really, IMO it's better for that Honda youre racing against to hear the BOV as you leave them in the dust than while sitting still at a stop light...

must have stock ic piping or something cause i can build 10psi and i have a b16g with a ####load of mods

haha this might sound really really really stupid...cuz its a simple Q...but a buddy of mine has a turboed 240sx an he can rev his car an let it blow off but my car doesnt do it...i know it might be just because im not venting but i still can usually hear my BOV shifting or just lettin off the gas...

You car builds boost easier when under a load, when you are just free revving the engine there is no load. If you punch it to the floor and hold it til 5k rpms or more I am sure you might get some boost pressure, but not much. But if you sit around revving your engine like that all the time your more than likely to break something.

hahaha yea i know :| but it just makes me mad when my friend sits beside me at a light an revs it...sounds soooo sweet...makes me want to go an spend the 170 bucks for a MAF-T

And it prolly makes him mad that you can smoke him off the line while he's busy reving. Don't worry about how your car sounds, worry about how it performs. ;)

some bov can be heard while boosting in neutral but you dont hearing like you would hear it while driving. so i guess it depends on the bov you have.

I have a 1g with a 16g. When in neutral or with the clutch depressed, when I rev up the motor, should my turbo build boost? My car does not. The factory gauge goes up from -7 to 0 and then drops back down again quickly. I build about 7-8 lbs during wot when driving. Not that I want to sit around and free rev for some reason. Just wanted to know if there's something wrong.

This might be a dumb question, but a friend of mines does build boost when just revving. So just wondering.

Thanks for any feedback.

As long as your car builds boost under load what does free rev boost matter? You should also buy an aftermarket boost gauge(if you don't already have one). The factory one pretty much guesses on how much boost your running. It does this by reading different sensors then calculating them in the ecu. It's not accurate. If you want more info on your neutral boost question type in " Neutral boost" in the forums search engine.

i have a vid of me getting full boost in neutral

damn highschool kids and their loud bov's!!!

No kidding. And with so many of them it's their ONLY mod along with a filter. But hey, it's got that queef sound even leaving a parking spot at 5 mph.

in the movie at the end when it says "10 psi not bad for a 10year old car" hows that prove anything? you still have the t25? its ###### spiking.

It's a t-25 ,But back then i thought it was cool:rolleyes:

Allright, BOV sounds aside. I'm more concerned that his bone stock 2G with an HKS BOV is venting into the atmosphere. That thing's gonna run like $hit, stumble and run rich like that. My last concern would be how much boost his 2G is making. If you want that sound, it's gonna cost you :thumb:
