ALright my gsx has an injen intake and other than that its stock.. I have really been wanting to mod it out.. e3 16g , mbc, dp, cat back , exhaust mani , fuel pump, injectors.. all that good stuff ¦) I also plan to get dsm link
Do you think I should get the dsmlink first and learn about using it first.. or should i just mod the car and get the dsmlink later. I want to mod the car but I want to make sure I do everything in the right sequence. :hmm:

Maintenance first, Suspension, then link. Also, you may want to look into the upgrade paths for your model.

side note if you do have a non eprom ecu and decide to go with link, ecmlink now offers a conversion of a non eprom to eprom conversion it is on their web site. it cost an extra 185 and they do it there you send your ecu and they convert and send it back.

Definitely try the Ceddy mod. The more support and users they get, the better. The Tephramod for the EVO's is the way to go. It has been around for a while and can even do speed density now. Lots of evos going very fast on the stock ecu.

Less than half the cost of getting your ecu eprom ready and nearly all the functionality of link, you'd be stupid not to try it.

so wait.. with using ceddy mod... is it flashing your ecu?? cause if you flash it and it isnt the right combo of things you cant take it back right??? or does it allow for constant changing of things to the ecu...

my honest oppinion is if you go DSM link you wont have supporting mods to do much at first at all. i would say fuel pump FMIC turbo exhaust ect. then dsm link i mean you cant always run low boost till you get dsm link. plus with the time that you will have you can research on dsm link so you wont just be getting your feet wet when you get it. you know for the most part how to work it. i would do ALL supporting mods first. i dsm link will not do much at all if you dont have the fuel or a less restricive exhaust.

Ecuflash flashes the factory ROM. If its not ### you want you reflash what you do want. Ecuflash has all the options link has and then some if you use evo8 components. Al you need is an openport (tactrix) 2.0 cable my 1.3 works also. You have launch control NLTS. SD. Etc

You use evoscan ($25) to log with the same cable you flash with. Evoscan is wonderful.

According to Ceddy on this page

You can use one of these cables to log and flash your ECU.

VAG 409.1 items - Get great deals on eBay Motors, Electronics items on eBay.com!

$45, everything to your door, everything you could do with link.

Maybe see if anyone in your area has a 2g/evo and is running Ceddy/Tephramod so you can watch them tune. From what I've seen it looks really cool. Almost makes me wish I had a 2g.

You can not flash with that cable.

i am glad that you guys are putting your input about getting dsmlink first on here because i kinda thought that you should get some kind of tuning going on before you go modding.. then someone told me to mod it first... so i dont blow a stock motor with tuning or somethin like that :hmm: i just had hard time believing that.. ... i just dont want to go through the trouble with getting my ecu done.. guess you gotta pay to playy;)

Ohh, my bad. It's not tremendously clear. So you would need the open port 2.0 cable to flash.

My 1.3u works to flash/log on both my 3g and 2g. :hmm: I also use the evo based 1.3 cable though.

Buying a dsmlink v3 is the first thing i did. put it on a stock 90 talon. It has a hack maf and turned up the boost up to 15ish psi. That is all i did.NOT A GOOD CHOICE.
The car ran perfect with the stock computer.after i installed it now has idle problems. I found out that the stock computer had adapted to run with a faulty idle switch and messed up maf.Now after spending the money on it you HAVE to make it work right? O.K. there are people that know everything about tuning the dsmlink.... just try getting help.I have posted logs on ecmtuning and on here with minimal feedback(most of it saying to reset everything)that never helped the situation. And the stock full throttle tune that comes on the link was set WAY rich(good for newbs)so you for sure have to tune it.After you tune it and have a problem people on the forums will tell you to reset it all.very frustrating

This is my 2c. mostly a bunch of hate.

Wow that is a lot of hate Johnnynitrous wooosaaaaahhhhhh.

Ive been running link v2.5 for two years and have never had any problems with it. Getting something comprable to V3 will cost you way more are be far more complicated to build (megasquirt).

Doing basic tuning on DSMlink is very easy there is lots of how-to's and other resources out there. and if you have a more complicated question just post it up on the ecmlink forums and itll get answered. Im planning on upgrading as soon as I finish some other things. There are a lot of guys that have gone very fast with it.

Get. Link First.
I start modding first and as more mods I do less power I get, Well with more mods more tune it needs so because I didn't have any management then I was screw, I hate it because I couldn't put that gas pedal all the way down.
GET LINK FIRST.
Unless you want to drive like an OLD MAN until you get something to Tune.
