Would it be timing?

If my 1st gen motor started and ran for about 5 mins then died would it be the timing belt that cause it? or something else?

I'm trying to ask a simple question, if my car died would it be the timing cause before i put it in i changed the timing belt and lined all the marks up and got it installed and hooked everything up including the cam position sensor wire and it only ran for about 5 mins would that be because i messed something up with the timing belt or would it just be something else?

Did you check the timing belt to make sure it still has tension? Or as soon as your car died to you come straight to Tuners to post this? You gotta give us something to work with.

I'm trying to help my friend out so i don't know much but everything on the motor was set to go and it only ran so long then died and it wouldn't start after that so he decided to sell it but hasn't got any offers on it, its been sitting at my place for a couple months so i want to take a crack at it.

It could have slipped time. But it also could have burned your rings, fuel pump gone bad, maybe no spark, ecu could be fried, maybe the headgasket blew. Do you see where this is going.

Of course a slipped belt could make it not run, but if you are that vague there is no way anyone can help you further.

But for your answer.... YES!!!!

wish i was their to tell but when he told me it was running he might had side it was idling fine, i'm going to give him a call later to find out more.

It could have nothing to do with the timing at all. The IAC could have just went out. Do an Ohms test on the IAC. There is a How to on VFAQ. And while your under there try to take a look at the timing marks as well.

Good idea. Just saying "my car ran for 5 minutes then died, what is it?" doesn't help us at all. For all we know you turned the key off.

yeah i don't really know the condition of the motor, just going by what the guy told us when we bought it which is it ran good before he pulled it and had like 90k miles on it, everything on the talon it self works fine

I know this was a point less post but my main question was when i setup the timing belt and tensioner tight, and it died on me would the timing belt cause it to stop, i was looking for a yes or no even though its a dumb question.

A bad coolant temp sensor won't let the car start, nor will a blown MPI fuse. Need more info and the tests you have done to diagnose the problem.
