Hey guys, I been trying to figure out this noise for almost 2 weeks now and its driving me crazy:cry:. A while ago i got a cloth stuck in my timing belt. It got wrapped around the intake cam and cause the car to shut off. When i took the cloth out and started the car, there was this loud noise kinda like a grinding/vibrating noise coming from the timing area:confused:. So i took my timing apart and check every pulley and found that my intake cam gear came off in pieces. The gear was slightly bent and had cracks on the inside. So i got a used one and threw it on there. I then put the car back together and started it. NO NOISE:hellyeah:. I drove it around for about a day or two and the noise came backOMG. I did a compression test and got between 165-175 on all cylinders.

....CAN ANYONE HELP ME?..I noticed that the timing belt was wiggling between the cam gears. Maybe a loose timing belt can cause the noise???...ANY suggestions would be greatly appreciated...THANKS GUYS

mines doing the same thing but i dont think i set the tensioner properly when i put the new timing belt on. i can also see my timing belt deflecting on the cam gears. so i am interested to know the answer to this also!

I always recommend to use the service manual instructions any time you need to change the timing belt. I just did a timing belt/balance shaft change. You have to make sure you get enough tension on the timing belt by prying up on tensioner pulley pulley while tightening it and I would suggest getting a new tensioner too. Doing these two things should ensure that your belt is nice and tight. I'm taking it that you got a new timing belt as well?

As far as the cam gear goes. I don't know what to tell you. I haven't replaced mine yet. But I'll keep looking around to see what I find.

..might have a bent bolt that holds either one of the idler pulleys, or, oil pump sprocket bolt since that belt suddenly got super tight when the rag got involved in the mix.-usually a weak spot in the belt circuit..

Good luck .. DSM

Well i finally figured it out guys... My auto tensioner for my timing didnt extend enough. So the tensioner arm was bouncing on the pivot point of the Auto- tensioner. CRAZY!!
