I've found a mint, 97 TSi, AWD. it mileage is around 80000, no mods, 5 speed, just about every option[ABS, infinity system , power everything] all for about 6,000. I plan on taking a loan from the bank[ i'm not going to be modding anytime soon, or beating it senseless either, so it should be pretty reliable for daily driving]..i'm just wondering if I am dumb to pass up this deal. Its being sold right at KBB value, which seems pretty shocking for my area.

alright, thanks for the input guys :). This has been my take this entire time. I just need to convince my parents[ i'm paying for it, but i need my dad to cosign for the loan ] and wanted a 2nd opninon from you guys as a double check :)

anyone else have input please post, the more the better if I have to end up showing this to my parents.

I HIGHLY suggest have a local enthusiast (obviously one that you trust and has a vast knowledge of the cars) or a trusted mechanic look at the car. spend the money now, or you'll possibly be spending much more on repairs later. Theres a lot of things you should be aware of before you think about handing over money. Get as many records, do a carfax... etc... The last thing in the world you want to do when you're slightly stretching yourself to afford a car is to hand over the money, and then realize you have another 1000$ in repairs to do.

If everything checks out... have fun, and good luck. (and make sure the timing belt has been replaced... :thumb: )

yea, i've got some decent knowledge so far from reading the tutorials and information here. I'm going to ask him when his last timing belt change was, going to see if he can get a compression test done, or If i can do it there on the spot. I'll be looking for any signs of crankwalk. anything else?[if theres any bent valves i'd probbly hear so that should be covered]

red with the black roof. and that sexy OEM 97 spoiler :)

Is that sarcasm? Put up your location, if you dont buy it I want to :D Dont think twice, I had a similar deal (95 tsi awd, 60,000 miles, for $5000), waited a day to look at it, and it was already sold.

no, its not sarcasim. I LOVE the spoilers on the 97s. Gives the car and agressive look. The only reason i've been delayed in purchase is because my parents are being worry worts, and i need them to cosign. they dont realize ive been looking for 1.5years+ for a good deal, i find it and now they don't seem to be taking it seriously.

i say go for it, depending on where you live and how hard it is to find an awd 2g.
my boi just a 96 gsx for 8k, its not even in mint condition.

at my work (bmw car dealership), i saw a silver 98 gsx w/ 87k traded in for $5000. it was loaded: fmic, upper/lower icp, 1g bov, fpr, magnacore wires, big turbo?, 3" full exhaust, boost gauge. musta had injectors and fuel pump too...didnt check.

wish i had 5k, i would of bought it, took all the parts, and sent it back to stock, then resold it:p

I would have traded my car straight up for it.

The 2Gs aren't as good as the 1Gs, but I like them better. Sounds like a very fair price, and especially if you plan on not fiddling with it, you'll be able to get your money back any time you need to.
