I was in the middle of changing my shocks when I noticed the cv boot was torn on the drivers side axle. I went to go change it and noticed I couldn't get the half shaft out of the transmission. I used a tire iron and bent it when I pushed with both legs trying to pry it out. I then went and bought a attachment for my slide hammer used to pull axles to no avail. Finally I hooked a chain up to the slide hammer and tried pulling it out with my truck. All I managed to do was bend the slide hammer and drag the car about 6 feet sideways. I'm completely baffled on how to get this damn half shaft out of the transmission. Any advice of what I can try next. I attached some pics for your enjoyment.

The other side should be easier to pull off. You should be able to see the one your trying to pull. Then get a piece of steel or something you can hit with a big hammer and hit the tip of the right axle. Be careful not to slip can damage splines on center diff.

Place one prybar on each side (180* apart) of the cv housing that's up against the tranny (#1 in previous pic). Then pry both together at the same time with a quick snap. If it doesn't pop out you're doing something wrong as people have been doing it this way for 20 yrs. [And yes on driver's side of awd axle you must remove the 2 bolts holding the inner shaft connection.]

I feel like a complete noob I didn't remove the 2 bolts. I'm used to the fwd's that don't have that bracket. Thanks guys for the help I should have asked sooner rather than spend a whole day jerking the car around and risking damaging something else.
