Axle Seized in spindle

I had same issue on a 2G. I had to use a 50 ton press. Once I build a fixture for the spindle I applied so much force to the press I was pulling myself off the floor. I then used a 10 lbs sledge matter to try and apply some vibrations and a tad bit of additional force and it eventrually broke free. Car needed a new axle and wheel bearing. It was very unsafe to put that much pressure on that knuckle. In the future you are better off getting a torch and just burn the axle stub out and replace the axle and bearing. Not to mention it would only take a few hours to do the whole job that way.

I agree. You might need a new bearing, but at least you won't need a new spindle.

I had to do a clutch on my 96tsi winter beater.. couldn't get it apart, so i just poped the axle out of the trans, let them hang, than pop back in after...

I used torch to heat it, and a large sludge, wouldnt budge!.. I didn't damage bearing with the heat luckly. I did damage the end of the threads, but the 3/4" gun had no problem getting the axle nut on there! LOL

Funny thing is.. On my 1990, they fell right out basically after i loosed the nut.

Goodluck, antiseaze the heck out of that when you re-install.
