wont come out of gear

Was driving 93 5 speed awd and came to a stop. now it wont come out of 5th gear. If i can get it out of gear a little and let out the clutch it grinds. It wont go into anyother gear.

any help please

Does it shift out of gear with the car off? It could be a shift cable or bushings issue, a roll pin backing out, an end shaft nut backing off, or something else like a failed TOB or damaged pressure plate or clutch fork or slave cylinder.

We removed the trans last night. The levers on the trans itself is stuck in gear. I called a company today and was told the reverse light may need backed out. Has anyone heard of doing that before.

I had a problem like that, turned out to be my tob was in bad shape.

If the washer is under the reverse light switch, this wouldn't be the problem. You could have damaged a shift fork.

kind of what i was thinking. could it be a sinkrow broke? dose any one have link to awd trans rebuild

or you may have lost the keeper for the final drive just under the end housing. I would drain the fluid and take it off just to make sure before it ends up like mine.

The trans isnt as bad as that one. But its pretty bad every gear has chips missing out of it. There is some plate that is bolted down on 5th gear and the plate is broke. After loosening the bolts around the case it let me shift the gears on the case.

That would be the gear stop it sounds like. It grabs the SYNCRO and slows the gear so that you can shift into 5th.
