I just had my front brakes done because i have never messed with brakes or suspension and mention to the service desk guy that eventually i need to replace my water pump and just replace the timing belt because the water pump has a small leak. He tells me and im not lying here "Wow, thats not an easy job and it will run you about 2 grand to do." Then he tells me he did the timing belt and water pump on a friends car and it took him 14-16 hours to do. I had to bite my tongue and and not tell him he's an idiot. I have a n/a 96 Eclipse GS and i know it wont take that damn long. I about fell over when he told me that. If i'm not mistaken it should only run about 500 and take 4ish hours to do. Although i could be wrong, but i dont think so

he wanted that much hes insane a water pump and timing belt should be around 700 at a shop and a little more with all the pullys redone also time wise your about right too if the person knows what theyre doing give it 6 hours if the guy is a little slow at it

Most likely he was trying to hustle you and snatch every penny out of your pockets. It absolutley DOES NOT take 2 grand to do a timing job on a N/T DSM! 14-16 hours to do the job?! How is he still in bussiness?

It took me about 2 hours to do mine when I had my RS. Bought all the parts at Autozone. Barely touched 70 bucks. First time I ever did a timing job, too!

Sheesh, how much did them theives charge you for the brakes?

It was 140 for the front brakes. It was just some guy who sets appointments for the place. Probably only make 9.50/hr. The front brakes were so bad on this car the drivers side rotor came off in 3 pieces. I bought it 3 weeks ago as a project and it looked like the car has sat for 2 years exposed to all the elements. The rotors were rusty as hell.

Oh yea, forgot to mention, this place dont do timing belts and water pumps. This was just some kid that works there.

shit, with all the How-to's and DIY threads on this forum, you can tackle just about ANY job on a dsm with the right tools. Not to mention the resources that are available on dsmtuners.com. That guy was full of shit, i'd call him back and call im out on his BS.

Mitsubishi dealership in New Haven, IN costs $800 for this job. I didn't know much about engines at the time, so I had my uncle help me do it. Including new water pump and bearings it was about $150 for my 420a. We just followed the instructions in the Haynes manual, pretty simple job.
