So I just got a brand new Evo III 16g in, didn't want anything big or fancy but wanted a slight upgrade. All new hardware, gaskets, everything for it. I have EVERYTHING to install it but one bolt that goes through the exhaust manifold that bolts it to the turbo. Alright, I guess I can reuse ONE bolt. So I clean the threads, I lubricate it up and I get two other bolts in before I start threading this one in. As it's threading in, all is going well until it gets further down, the bolt is showing out the other side of the turbo aaaaand BAM starts to cross thread out of nowhere. I'm thinking, what the hell!
At this point I know I'm f*ed, so I back the bolt up, go forward, back it up an 1/8th turn more, go forward, back it up and 1/8th turn more, go forward, back it up a *SNAP*
This is the first time I've honestly actually almost thrown up I was so pissed. I launched that bolt into the air, took the other two out, head down to the machine shop for $105 worth of bolt removal that took them 3 hours and a helicoil on a brand new exhaust housing. I'm picking the turbo back up again tomorrow and the final bolt should be in from Mitsubishi on Friday.
Talk about your pissers, one reused bolt causes this much crap, I should have had my car running yesterday. God I just wanna drive it, that's it! Drive it and not have any problems. Then again I did buy an 18 year old DSM.
