Wobble's guide to setting up your bov properly..

Would you suggest that I start another thread reguarding exactly what this thread is talking about instead of using the search button like a noob?
This was a guide written by a member who is long gone. I know why you posted here but you could probably use your own thread or PM someone for more specific information relating to your situation.

So pressurize my system to the PSI I am looking for then loosen/soften my BOV until it releases?

No.

You're combining boost leak testing with bov adjustment. Do one, then do the other.

What are you even trying to do? You said that you were loosening your bov but it won't open; but it will blow off when driving. Yeah-OK. That makes very little sense.
I think what you are trying to do is simply adjust your bov, correct? And since there is a handy guide right here in this thread, what exactly is the problem?

So I took off my recirculation pipe and tryed watching the vlave but it didn't seem to move so I have been trying to do it by ear. Should I use a leak tester and then pressurise my system because no mater how much I soften it I cant get it to open but it still blows off and I can hear the difference every time I adjust it. Can I keep making it harder until it doesn't open when I step on the pedeal a little bit and then let off until it doesn't release until a point I am satisfied? I did read that to hard and it hurts your turbo.
Does anyone have video of what it should sound like? High pitched then low pitched or is it if it blows off it sounds more llike a stock 1g BOV?

Just so you don't think I'm a dick I will try to answer these questions.
Yes, you can keep making it harder until it doesn't open when you step on the pedal a little bit and then let off until it doesn't release until a point that you are satisfied.... I think. The wording is complicated.
There are many videos of the sound of a type-s. You will hear the mouse sneezing, you will hear the turkey gobble, it's all there for your listening pleasure.

EDIT: Jesus Christ. Yeah, I saw the date just now. Yeah, I'm a loser.

Adding to the beating of dead horses, you could use a shuttle valve with a modded 1g, type s, or apexi twin chamber. Any valve with a lower port for an assist. Works magic on the cheap.

Personally, I use two modified valves: one low and one high pressure.

I have a VERY nice large BOV and the lower nipple IMO is a pure waste.. even with the adjustment all the way in i couldn't make more than 28psi on a turbo designed to pull 45+psi for operating range, i went through hell figurring it out untill i unplugged the BOV's lower nippple, now i have the screw one turn in from BOV being closed, the thing still opens fine but i'm not boost leaking all the time.. it was so bad my WG wasn't even opening to regulate boost, just a huge leak from a BOV almost the size of a tial 50mm (it's got 46mm opening) but has a tough diaphram like a tial wastegate inside :D )

anyway, i think there's a reason they're not on all BOV's, and at LOW boost where you may need help opening the BOV (what i'ts' meant to do) it might be ok, but for high boost guys, i wouldn't touch the bottom opening assist nipple on a BOV

other thn that, great writeup

5: slowly loosen/decrease the pressure on the spring untill the plunger begins to open a SLIGHT amount.. do this VERY slow as the bov may react slowly due to commin vac irregularities..
6: once it has just SLIGHTLY cracked open.. just a tiny bit.. lock this in positiion..

Just a quick note, even though this thread is a few months to YEARS old..

Hopefully I'm correct here but I don't believe that would be the best idea. You need to record your absolute LOWEST vacuum reading under all conditions. Namely deceleration, because decel will yield higher vacuum than idle. Example, my car reads 19inHg @ idle and my highest deceleration is around 24inHg. So if you adjust the valve (BOV) to be ever so slightly cracked open at idle, its gonna be ever so WAY open on decel, inviting whatever unfiltered elements that the current road has to offer. Party in the cylinders, YAY!

I hope anyone who reads the very first post keeps reading to find the good info, because the first post ...er.."Guide" is absolutely butchered with false theorys.

No offense, even though they are probably gone, but don't post unless yaknow yo.

Well my boost gauge also functions to tell me vacuum. (Greddy boost gauge) so that's what I currently use. You can also use a MityVac (hand held vacuum pump with gauge) to take pressure readings as well as test sensors with the vacuum function. Pretty handy tool

My Greddy boost gauge is kinda funky to me and reads mmHg instead of inches (inHg) but it works great! :)
