I'm debating wheter or not what to do with my dsm. I want to get all the horsepower out of it i can with my 20g. My mods are Crowler stage 1 cams, mistu. 20g turbo, afc-2, 550cc injectors, 255lph pump, act 2100lb clutch, 3" exhaust and thats about it. Im planning on purchasing a fmic and NX co2 intercooler sprayer, but i need to know which would be better for my car. I want to now what would be better, gm 3" mas with maft vs. hks vpc. also which would be better to use a datalogger with. Let me know what you guys think :thumb: :talon:

I agree, forget about the Co2 sprayer, not a real power adder and definitely won't help squeeze more juice out of the turbo. I think the FMIC is a good idea, and definitely bigger injectors (650-720cc), but then instead I think you should just tune the setup with DSMLINK. No need for a VPC or datalogger. You will also need an AFPR with the big fuel pump

1g dsmlink has been ready and available for 1g's for a couple months now..

forget the co2 sprayer

Will the 550s be ok for now, or under too much of a load. I also have a evo3 16g so i was wanting to keep the 550s incase the turbo took a crap. What exaclty is a DSMlink, ive heard of them but not to familair.

Also what about the ecu. What exaclty is an EPROM, would that be a better upgrade rather than the co2 sprayer? Another thing how about water injection? anyone familiar with that?

like they said, no noticable difference with the IC sprayer. en EPROM is an ecu that has a chip, with said chip you can add or subtract or modify certain aspects of how the ecu conrtols the engine.

it's a decent investment for some but not for all, and hell, you might have an eprom and not even know it.

WI kits are good if you know how to use them and have them set up properly. make sure if you tune with it, not to tune specifically for when you run water. WI can lower knock and cool intake temps, and some people run alcohol for added octane.

i say DSMLink, i havn't used it myself, but it seems to be one of the better, more precise tuning applications out there. not to mention specifically for the dsm.

and yes, with your set up bigger injectors and a FMIC are going to be needed to get the most potential out of that 20g. im sure you're heat soaking the hell out of that SMIC when you run it.
good luck and happy modding.

Forget the co2 sprayer forget they ever existed if you were doing road racing competatively then I would say a water sprayer might not be that bad of an idea but for just regular street/light strip use its useless. Anything would be a better mod than the intercooler sprayer. Water injection or methonal injection are great. Many people use water injection instead of a fmic because it is so effective. Like static stated some people add methonal to the mix to give it some more pep. I was going to go with nitrous but instead decided to use methonal instead becuase it would allow me to advance timing and up boost without adding fuel.

OMG You havent heard of DSMLink yet? OMG Do a search on here and review it. It seems like GOD for our cars. Im not ready for that type of setup yet, $$ so I cant play :( I have an act 2100 on my FWD and I plan on also upgrading to a 20g turbo. I dont know if it'll be adequate for my car with that turbo and supporting mods. I've never commonly heard of many AWD(ers) running the 2100. The co2 sprayer does give hp gains, but only 5-7hp and about as much torque, not even worth the money or hastle. W.I. just like the guys already said. I think the GM MAS/MAF-T combo is overpriced for the function of venting. LOL! Who would HONESTLY run GM MAS draw-through? A 2g MAS will read enough air for 400hp. Its on my wish-list. You're good on the 255, just get a good FPR. Dont get a Weapon R right now, they're coming out with defects from the factory. I had to call and ask them why the adaptor flange didnt fit and they told me they were all defective. Ditch the SMIC, i cant vouch for it because I never had one, I started out non-turbo. I have a Starion, which is not rated much better, but i've never heat soaked it on the 14b at stock boost in hot weather with hard driving either. I dont know if its possible to heat soak a stock SMIC with the 14b at stock boost.

:sneaky: Now, the good stuff:

Being a 1Ga, you most likely have an EPROM ECU already installed from the factory...This means you would be a step ahead if you decide to get DSMLINK.

TURBO DSM DL "DSMlink seems like God for our cars." Poor analogy at best. Sorry to get off topic but that hit a raw nerve. You nay feelthat the link has been like a God send but I can assure you God doesn't care much about cars! He's interested in the drivers. mark

I agree with most of these guys....Go with FMIC (I'd say the SBR one with short route piping), something like 680cc or 750cc injectors, FPR, MAFT blow-thru setup, and DSMLink. DSMLink is an awesome and VERY powerful tool and will definately help you out a lot. This will eliminate the need for an AFC and datalogger (and you should really get a datalogger to keep watch on timing and knock since you will be upping the boost a bit after all this). If this all comes out to be a little too much money for ya, ditch the MAFT and run draw-thru on the stock MAF sensor (and make sure you recirc that shiot) and save yourself $300. This will be a decent combo to get you into the mid-300hp range :D Water injection is a very cool thing, but I wouldnt recommend it until after you get datalogger so you can keep an eye on things. Hell, if you have an crapload of money to spend, just add a WI kit to the list above :thumb:

I don't know what your time schedule and pocket book looks like but you HAVE to fill in some holes first. Must get an AFPR. You are probably over-running as we speak. Also, data logger etc. will do you no good if you are heatsinking with the sidemount and blowing up your turbo. FMIC with larger pipes is also needed. This allows for your breathing ( I would go for the gm 3" mas myself). Now, what have you done in the exhaust area? You say 3" exhaust; 2 1/2" to 3" downpipe (or straight 3")? Ported o2? Match port on the exhaust mani? These items will help you breathe and can help you with boost creep if necessary. Once you do these things, go bigger injectors. You can always back off, but the 550s are limited with your cams, turbo and the breathing that I was talking about.

You say you want to get all the horsepower you can with the with the 20g. Then a good tuner w/dyno is needed after set-up.

(also, imo go wideband)
MB

Oh yeah, somewhere you asked if it will hurt to run the 550s. It will only hurt you power, not the injectors.

i maintain though, he won't get a whole lot of the HP he's looking for out of that 20gwith the super restrictive stock exhaust.

even if he goes mandrel bent 2.5 and a stock looking exhaust, he'd be better then leaving it be.

if you're not looking at cash as an issue go with this muffler, it's expensive, but prolly what im going to go with. looks super stock, sept for the stainless.

 Is this some biblical revelations time or what? And second off, its "TURBO TALON DL." I said like God because its almost the next best thing next to a stand-alone for the price. And who was talking about drivers on this thread anyhow? :boring: Last I read, he wanted yay's and nay's for his proposed list of mods......for the car.
Another person says to keep the 2g mas, theres a trend on that part.....
Somebody suggest a GOOD BOV to this guy as well, nobody's hit that topic yet.

I run a complete www.kteller.com 3" exhaust but got my own Magnaflow, stainless with dual 3" outlets for $110. shipped. Don't need tips as the outlets are right at the edge of the bumper! 550cc inj's will hit 100% duty near 18 psi boost but that will make plenty of power until you can upgrade to larger ones. Got my Spearco FMIC off DSMtrader for $400. shipped. Still using the stock BOV venting as I have the MAF-Translator in a blow thru position and a Cold Air Intake. Walbro 255 and AFPR from fullthrottlespeed. EPROM ECU and DSMchip help tuning with a wideband and a Scanmaster for logging if you have a 1G as I forgot what platform you are working with. You can PM me for a complete order of my mods. Mark

Also depends on which god you're talking about. After all... not everyone follows the same religion. Which would be a good thing to keep out of this thread, when someone was just using a fairly standard turn of phrase, describing an upgrade for a car. Ugh. Some people.

Regardless. An AFPR is absolutely necessary IMO. I was running mine without one.. it runs rich, sucks gas, drains power, runs hot, reeks, and is generally a bad idea. I'd recommend an Aeromotive AFPR with a DSM mounting kit... NOT the Weapon-R one, as their fuel rail plate leaks. Grabbed my regulator and kit from Import Evolution for $200, and it hasn't given me any problems, except where I screwed up a bit and let some teflon tape slip into the aperture. Fixed now. :)

DSMLink would be my second pop, check if you have an EPROM ECU or not. Have to pull it and open the case... contrary to popular belief, not all 1Gs came with eprom ECUs.. not even the '90s are all eprom.

After that, I'd hit up a 3" exhaust, larger injectors, then the GM MAF + MAF-T and the FMIC at the same time so you can get the intercooler piping set up for the blow-through from the start. After that, it's mostly tuning the crap out of it.

I already have an exhaust. Its 2.5" dp with 3" backing. No cat. With my 16g i ran it at 23psi on the stock smic. Im still in the building stages of my 20g car thats why i was needing the help i didnt want to buy something that wasnt worth it, like the co2 kit ended up. I was hoping to get 400hp out of it. I will have around $2000-3000 depending if i can get my block sold. But i was planning on buying the SBR fmic with short route piping and keeping my 1g bov. I was going to set the boost at 19psi and also run a 2g mas. I think i will also be buying a water injection kit as well. I also got a new intake (thanks baby :) ). And an afpr most likely aeromotive. What else would you guys recommend on purchasing?

I think i will be buying a DSMlink and datalogger, but does anyone know where i can get one used or cheap?

DSMLink negates the need for a datalogger cable, as I believe was mentioned above. It's an ECU upgrade.. send yours to them (if you have an EPROM ECU) along with $600, and they send you back your ECU, eprom socketed and with the DSMLink chip installed. Oh, and a cable to hook up to your laptop. Direct burst logging, so the values on each frame are less than a millisecond apart, at worst.
You can also use a male-male DB9 adapter if you'd rather use a Palm with a serial link, and the unsupported software from one of their customers.

If you want a logger cable for the interim, check eBay. I just picked one up for $9, including shipping. Still waiting for it to get here though.
