Wiring up a relay

Just wanted to know how people wire up replays when they add a fan or something that runs power (electric water pump, fuel pump, etc...)

Where would you wire it too and where where you hook up a fuse too.


Here is picrure of a basic relay

86 = 12V wire in(switched)
87 = Power wire to whatever your hooking up
85 = Ground to chassis
30 = Power from battery

and 87A is not used?

I believe that 87A is only used if you were using the relay to switch power from one thing to another otherwise 87A is the "off" position (no ground) and 87 is the "on" position. I may be wrong but I believe that is how it works.

whatever is connected to 87A will be disconnected when the relay is activated. Most people don't use it.
