My interior lights don't come on when the doors are open, just when the hatch is. I assumed the door switches were dirty or corroded so I went to clean them.

I looked at the switch in the door jam, and there were two wires coming from it. A green one with a pink stripe and a Yellow one with a white stripe. For some reason, the yellow one has been pulled out by the previous owner. I checked the green wire with a multimeter, and it has about 15V, same as my battery. I tied a wire on to what is left of the yellow wire and grounded it, and the interior lights came on. So basically the circuit I made is this:

The hot green wire is grounded when the door switch connects it to the yellow wire, since the yellow wire is grounded. Is this the correct way to wire that? It didn't seem right to me that simply shorting out the signal wire was the correct way to do this, but maybe it is. Any advice on where the yellow wire is SUPPOSED to go?

Thanks!!!

are both wires corrently connected to the switch and your trying to figure out where one of them goes from there, or is only one connected to the switch and your trying to figure out where the other hooks to it?

Sorry, I should have been more clear. There are two wires connected to the switch. One is green and it is carrying 15V. The other is yellow but it is cut about three inches from the switch. I don't know where it is supposed to go, but if i touch it to a ground, the interior lights come on. Is that yellow wire supposed to be grounded?

There should be a plug that the green one goes into before connecting to the actual harness. This allows you to remove the switch from the car. if you follow the green wire away from the switch, you should be able to find the other end of the yellow wire, or the plug the yellow wire used to go into.

So the yellow is the ground wire? I soldered it to another ground, not sure where it's supposed to go but it works for now. Thanks guys.
