I hope this question is welcomed here ?

I need a recommendation for a setup for winter driving my Eclipse 2003 GTS-3g for the winter weather in Michigan.
I don't want to trust my life to the wheels I have now !
What is your advice ?

Go for the narrowest recommended tire you can fit on the rim. General altimax Arctics are great for most winter conditions with the addition of being easy on the pocket book.

Thx for the reply !

I understand your recommendation but I'm looking recommendations to replace the wheels and tires for the winter months. I'll put my existing wheels away for the winter.

You can go with whatever rims you want. I suppose some advice would be whatever combination you get, try to stay close to OE so the speedometer remains accurate.

From previously owning a 3g myself if you are looking for a new rim and tire combo, then really a set of the stock wheels for the 3g would be best. They are skinny and cut right through, are designed to look well with the car, and also you keep all speedo functionality. Plus you can find them everywhere :thumb:

I'm confined by the spec's below;
2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse 5 lug 4.5 inch or 114.3 mm High Positve Offset

The question here is can I use just any 5 lug 4.5 inch or 114.3 mm High Positive Offset wheel regardless of maker and model of car ?

Will a common 15" wheels with a tall tires for snow be the way to go ?

Does anybody have experience with this idea ?

Refer to the first post. If your brakes are the same size as the RS, then yes, you can go with a 15" rim. If your are in search of other makes/models that share similar size/bolt pattern:

Thx ! for the link, I didn't know of that site.

So, I'm down with "15" Tires, 195/65-15 ; Rim Width Range = 5.5" - 7.0"" with the proper offset and bolt pattern as spec'ed above regardless of manufacture.

Appearance is of no concern but it would be nice to find some Alloy wheels at a Junkyard for cheap ! But new tires of a good quality all weather 195/65-15 for certain.

Thank you !
