Okay so before I royally screw something up Im gonna ask you guys. I dont know a whole lot about dsm's and I have a project here. Its a 1995 GSX with a 16g turbo on it. Ive fixed all the electrical and fixed a pulley problem it had but it still wont start. It will turn over and it is getting spark and fuel. I dont know where to look next anyone got any ideas for me? :banghead:

Spark is easy to see, but how do you know you have fuel ? do you have a fuel pressure gauge? are the plugs soaked or are they dry? are your plugwires in the correct firing order?

Also, check your base timing. The same problem happened to me a couple times, it turns out that my timing belt skipped 8 teeth! Luckily I didnt smash any valves.

Plug fires in the right order yes. I can smell the gas and there is some on the spark plugs when I pull them.

How would I go about checking my base timing? Im new to all of this never had to deal with engine issues like this before

So I was looking at the engine and noticed that theres what looks like a vacuum hose fitting where a hose should attach but its left open with no hose on it? Could this be a problem? Its on the left side of the engine right up on the top.

idk. A vacuum leak will probably cause the car to bog or miss a little, usually it will at least start. disconnect your coolant temp sensor located on the thermostat. its the top connection. then try. if its starts fine, its your sensor.

I just tried disconnecting the ect and it still didnt start. Im attempting to check the timing now but I dont know that I can figure that out

turn the crank with a breaker bar until it lines up at 0, then pull the cam cover off and check that the marks on the cams point at each other

okay thanks for all the help guys. Ill try and check that tomorrow as long as I dont die after working retail on black Friday

Not the ect..? The cts. If you checked that, listen to see if your fuel pump is priming when you turn the key on. It should make a strong whine.

Okay thanks for the help guys. I havent had time to check the timing yet had to work everyday Ive tried to start checking it. I did wonder if it could be the crank sensor but if it was wouldnt I be getting no spark?

Usually if the crank or cam position sensor is bad you will get no spark, I just ran into the same problem today with a friends 98gst fuel pump went bad, changed it out now you can here it running but still no start and I do have spark and good compression. I am going to work on it some more tomorrow I will see what I can find out and hopefully help you out with yours.

Finally got a day of work off tomorrow so I can actually try and work on my car suprisingly. Thanks for the help guys

All wires are definately correct I double checked them last night. FUel pup is running I can hear it run and I can smell gas when I pull the plugs after I try to start it. I think the only thing it could be is timing. JUst gotta find time to check it.

First do a compression test. If you for sure have fuel and spark then compression is the only other thing that will kill it. I'd do a compression test before checking timing because if compression comes back good then timing should be fine.

My no-start was caused by lack of fuel pressure. You need like 30psi to get it to start (hard), I was getting fuel pressure, but only like 20psi which wasn't enough to even get the car to chug over once. Fixed my fuel pump and boom, fired right up.

Ohh wow I didnt even think of that maybe it isnt getting enough fuel pressure. Ill check that before timing for sure.

Could the fuel pump be the problem its a walbro 255 and it doesnt have a regulator on the line that i know of. Pump was installed before I bought the car.

Well I just pulled the plugs out after trying to start it again after messing with a few things and cylinder 1 and 2 plugs were wet with fuel, cylinders 3 and 4 were both dry. I also tested the fuel pump relay and mpi relay they are both fine. Next step is pulling out the pump again to make sure that spacer did not break or something stupid happened.
