Had to repost this. but I'm still puzzled. Ok so to answer everyones questions. I have fuel, I have spark, I have compression. When I go to turn my key my car will crank slowly, if we push start it it will run until I push in the clutch, then it will die. It backfires really bad while its "running". Anyone got a solution to this?

Since you can jump it and it back fires/ cuts off when you depress the clutch, I may be wrong but sounds like it might be crank walked. When you push the clutch in it is pushing the crank just enough to mess with the crank trigger.Maybe

I said Maybe but that could also be why it turns over slowly ,because the crank is catching or a low battery. There is a way to check if it is crank walked with out taking the motor apart in the forums somewhere.Hope this helps

To check for crank walk with engine still in the car raise the front end up and support it on jack stands and all to be safe. The drain the oil and remove the pan and all that good stuff. Then get a pry bar or something pretty flat and strong and put it on one side of the main and try to move the crank then switch to other side and see if it moves if it moves a pretty good bit like this video you have crankwalk.

you can also check it by having the front end jacked up and using a pry bar between the crank pulley and the frame rail . you pry the pulley towards the trans and hold it there . have another person in the car and push on the clutch . if the thrust bearings are worn the pulley will move out towards the frame rail

Alright you dont need a crowbar to check for "crankwalk". Get yourself a Dial indactor, pull the pan off and then look up in your service maunal "Crank endplay"specs. Normally it should be at or around .005"-008. DO NOT use a crowbar. even with the motor fully assembled and in the car all you need to do is physically push the crank one way after hooking up the dial indactor(then Zero indactor) after you have done that. Simply push the crank in the opposite direction. If you cant move the crank to read anything A. your doing it wrong, B. your endplay was never set correctly. However, for "crankwalk" which is where from the factory they made a boo boo on many 2Gs to where they ground the main journals to small and never compensated by using appropritate bearing clearance"undersized bearings"

Oh, LOL apparently I need to read more ehh!! glad and sorry for you at the same time! get yourself a new set of rings, check your bores and have at her

Hahahaha I actually ended up selling that talon for 1750, and bought the one in my display picture for 2400 (It came with a bunch of good stuff to) So I no longer own it. It was a nice looking car though and the kid I sold it to is building up the engine I do believe. Im just happy its staying out of a scrap yard.
