I'll start off with I'm sorry if this was suppose to be in appearence, but the question isn't how they look it's if they slow me down.

Okay so I just bought some subs and put them in the back of my eclipse, they're 2 rockford fosgate t1s in an obcon steel box. The box probably weighs about 100 to 150 pounds and is sitting crooked in the back, with 1 back seat down.

Here are some pictures

Okay so my Question is will they slow me down enough to invest in a new box, or is just a little bit? Remeber I'm very low on money becuase I can't find a job yet :/

just compensate by losing some weight. LOL. ROFL. i always here people talking about taking off panels and taking off a lot of stuff to drop some few lbs. easiest and best thing would be to lose some weight off the driver .. LOL.. a little harder to do but well worth it.. :applause:

and how much does that all that weight. and yes it would slow you down. maybe like racing with an extra 1-2 people in the car.

Well I'm only 140 pounds so I guess that's a plus.
And I think the whole setup finished will weigh about 150, the subs, box, amp, and the other 2 helper subs.

So i shouldn't see a huge difference in slowing me down or what?

I'm confused on the question. Will the added weight slow you down? no you wont even notice it. You should center the box, that way the car is more balanced. The only way you are going to notice it is if you had an extremely light car and then added the box.

I'd love to center the box but I have a little problem with my trunk shutting if the box is center :/

So I really shouldn't even notice a difference in the car slowing down unless I was wanting to set it up for drag and added the box or something like that?

Yeah 150 pounds to my back would slow me down, but I also don't weigh as much as my car does so the ratio should be different :)

Well what I posted was the general idea, of course its going to slow you down, are you going to notice it, probably not. If its your daily, don't worry about it, unless you building a high hp race car, don't worry about it LOL

This is a daily driver, it's an automatic (unfortunately) :s So drag is kind of out of the question anyway unless I wanted to convert it.

Here you have people converting to Autos for drag racing, but then you have this guy saying autos can't drag race... :p

Anyway, to the question:
Will it slow you down? Absolutely, and it will be noticeably. That is a lot of weight. When my car was stock and someone else would ride with me, I could tell that it was slower.

Not only that, it looks ridiculous. Why do you need that many subwoofers? Sell em all on ebay and buy a single, more powerful woofer.... or at least sell the 2 helpers and get a smaller box that actually fits. These are all my opinions, of course, so take it as such.

I might also, eat up your gas mileage for yor DD too.

Do, a little test without the boxes and with them. Plus, are you easy with the throttle or do you wot.

Yes, depends on how you drive for DD and definetly Yes, if you race with them in the hatch.

Old saying is every 100 lbs is 1/10th of a second in ther quarter mile. Obviously that changes as you have more variables but in general that is how it goes. Regardless it's always unecessary weight which is why its called a luxury.

I agree with everything mentioned here 100%. What is the point of your two "helper subs" anyway? In case you didn't know mixing different subs generally greatly reduces the sound quality. It might not bother the average person, but I'm somewhat of an audiophile so I don't do it. I had two 10" subs and 2 12" subs in my old car, but ended up just getting rid of the 12's. The quality got better and I still had 600 watts RMS going to them. Anyway, if you're serious about performance at all, then a massive system is not the way to go. It will absolutely affect performance. I did some calculations once for my car in stock form and with four average guys in my car, there was a drop in power to weight ratio of over 30%. You are basically adding another person with your current system alone. There is a reason no part of my old system made it into my DSM, and that's because I value performance. The only reason I went so crazy on my other car was because it had nothing better going for it and I really do like audio. Like tsimonster said, if you just want some decent bass, get one decent 10 or 12" sub and be done with it.

Here is my thought. If its not an all ball out drag car dont worry about it. If it makes you slow then do some upgrades. Dont let the speed or acceleration factor hinder your want or desire to put a stereo system in your car. There are larger turbos on the market you know. LOL

Why would you care if two subs slows you down. Are you a daily street racer?
So funny when stock cars (no offense to anyone) are worried about weight reduction like they go from work to the track. Just enjoy your subs :)
As for auto's not being able to drag, shame on you.
And the 150lbs on your back analogy, would 150lbs spread out on 210 horses slow them down? Barely.

I think it would slow you down a lot, and I would be suprized if you could pass tech with all that crap flying around in the back of your car. Besides, it's rediculous. Why would you ever want that many subs? One of the red and black tubes would be perfect. Strap that bi*** down in the trunk, flip the back seats up, and you're good to go.

I took my 100 lb box out of my awd because it made a huge difference. Slower though the gears, launching was different, cornering I didn't notice so much but my rear shocks seemed stiffer over speed bumps. I just put it all back in when I go for long drives!

if you want the apperance and all that bump. just save up and get one 12" JL audio sub. make a custom box for it. and there goes the looks and trust me add all three of your subs it still cant bump like a JL audio bumps. i had 3 rock P1 on my FJ with three amps. i sold it and bougth a JL setup and it sounded a lot better.
