Hey guys, i searched but only came up with people having problems with boosted cars. I recently purchased a 96 eclipse gs and noticed that if i rev the engine while in neutral, it takes it a second before it revs down. While driving it doesnt have this problem at all... Any ideas? I though maybe the sensor on the TB but... I its only doing it in neutral. Any ideas?

Maybe the throttle plate isn't closing completely after you touch the gas and it's not noticeable enough while you are driving. Take off your intake pipe and look in there while you rev it a little w/ your hand (or have someone touch the gas a little.

See how it behaves. Sometimes the throttle cable gets stuck in our ancient cruise control systems and can cause it to not go all the way back to it's original position right away. Some wd40 on the cable should help at all the places it coils up. (or you could do what I did and just eliminate the cruise control)

My throttle was doing the exact same thing and after a month or so it was getting stuck while driving as well. My culprit was just the cable getting stuck in the cruise.

EDIT: Check it before you start ripping stuff out though LOL. Thought I'd mention that.

the 420a will rev down slow when the car does not have a load on it. like when stopped and in neurtal. but yea check the throttle cable and check to make sure its not sticking when opening the throttle body, do this under the hood with the car off.

Ill spray the cable and see... I dont have cruise control so thats not the issue. Would it be ok to spray a small amount of TB cleaner inside my throttle body while its still installed?

Alright, ill pick some up tomorrow and try spraying it a little. The wd40 on the cable didnt do anything. Still a good idea though. Im getting the oil changed tomorrow so ill run and grab a can of throttle body cleaner then and hopefully ill be swapping out some of the power steering fluid (or dexron 2 as i believe it should be?) as well as my psf if a yellowish brown WTF!!

By the way angel i dont have cruise control in my car so thats not it. Thanks for the warning though
