Will 18" Wheels slow me down much?

I've heard people talking about it, but a good "deal" has been thrown infront of me and i don't think i should pass it up. A friend of mine wants to sell me a set of 18" Racing Hart Z5000s for $500 w/ tires. Will these really slow me down that bad, I do not race at the track very much, but im talking about slowing me down for the rare occasion 5.0 race on the street , any feedback is appreciated, thanks guys again for listening to my stupid questions--Tony

In a drag race yes they'll slow you down
Bigger rims+bigger tires = heavier
More unsprung weight, more rotational mass

So in short, it'll slow you down, but not like seconds off your 1/4 time, maybe a few 10ths

The only way they can slow you down is if the wheel's overall diamater (rim+tire) is bigger than what you had on there before. A larger tire will need a lower gear to get to the same mph. Generally larger tires come with lower profile tires so they dont slow you down because the overall diameter remains the same.

I was in the same boat a few days ago. I was going to get wheels as the last parts for my car, but a good deal popped up. I got 18x7.5 Koing Absolutes for 360.00 without tires. They are in perfect condition so I had to buy them. The amount that they will slow you down will be minimal so i wouldnt worry about it. Just make a bit more power and you wont have to worry about it.

if they are heavier then what u got one right now, yes will slow you down but not a whole lot that u can notice it, unless u are going for time..

Also your breaking distance will increase....

i went from the stock 16's to some 18" falken torque 5's. the overall diameter was about 1/4" taller than the stock rims and tires, so i didnt really feel a difference in drivability ratios. but you will notice the car might feel different while turning, its hard to explain, but it has a spot where it feels like its heavy and unresponsive during minor turns, but then if you turn more it just bites the pavement and grips like a mofo.
