will no egr valve effect emmissions?

My intake doesnt have a place for an egr valve i dont know where to look for my exact situation like law wise. and will the fact that it is removed fail it even? in pa comon i know some one out there has an inspection license LOL

all stock 1g manifolds have a place for the egr valve. the aftermarket high performance intakes don't have spots for EGR valves because they are made for racing only and not for street use. and yes, not having egr will fail emissions tests

You would fail miserably. It is also likely you will be running hotter combustion chamber temperatures. So if you are stepping up the boost and what not, keep an eye on your logs. High chamber temps induce knocking/detonation.

Not necessarily. It depends on how they test your car. If it's a visual check, they may not notice. If they do a sniff test at idle, your can probably pass. A cat will affect your emissions more. Take it to a smaller shop. They probably won't know exactly what the erg looks like on your car. I don't even think the ERG is active while idling. Only during cruise.

EGR is used mainly to reduce NOX. If your car is AWD go to a emissions shop that does NOT have a 4 wheel dyno for emissions testing. They will have to do a 2 speed idle test. 1 - @ idle, 1 @ 2500 rpm.

The engine will have no load, and thus create no NOX. ;)

In Ontario, Canada there are no 4 wheel dyno test emissions machines that I am aware of. I'm a licensed 3rd period apprentice and a licensed emissions tester.

KNOCHGOON24 ~ Your pretty much right. EGR's are not used at idle, and mainly used (sometimes exclusively) during cruising.

EGR has no effect on IDLE emissions and a lack of one will only affect your emissions NUMBERS when you are on a dyno. The Engine needs a load as NOX are not formed until combustion temperatures reach 2300F!

Not having it working won't throw a CEL on our cars. You'll probably be fine without it as far as inspection goes. If you're really worried, stick on the EGR valve (if it's off) and run some vacuum lines into some tight spot to discourage someone from seeing where they go. If it has no vacuum acting on it, the valve will stay closed anyway.

I've been tempted to make mine function again (hasn't since before I owned the car) to see if there's any truth to running cooler/better mileage. Though I'd have to weight that against the extra crud getting sucked in, performance changes, and a/f ratio.

Same thing here in CA, no AWD dyno = no load test. One of the many advantages of AWD...

I'd also like to add EGR is not used under WOT or boost, and as such will not affect knock or EGTs at WOT....

It can fail you. It's not likely unless you are throwing codes (Check Engine light is on) Or the inspector is actually looking at your car closely and knows the engine and where every component is.

The machanic i take mine to only does tail pipe tests so as long as i am burnign fuel well i should not have to worrie about emissions since i would hope the tubo will help with burning up extra fuel. the exauhst smells clean so i have hopes. but thanks all!!
