Will a 6 bolt oil pan fit a 7 bolt engine?

Back to the future

What are the differences between the 6 and 7 bolt pans? The pickup? The mounting holes? I've really never messed with 6 bolts.

Is it possible to modify? I need a new oil pan, and the shiny, high cap aluminum ones cost just about as much as a measly stock 92.5-99 stamped steel one. Not even going to bother welding this rusty piece of trash, I'd much rather have brand new, not used.

Appreciate it

It would be shorter/easier to explain the similarities. They are both metal :D

I believe the shape, number of bolts, pickup location, drain plug etc etc etc...

I remember back in the day people were using 7 bolt pans on their modded 6 bolt swaps. The case /oil pump / filter housings were slightly different, and required a bit of cut and drill to make it happen.

I found this on Road Race's site:
6 Bolt Motor Install Into a 2G Eclipse

It says 2nd gen. "(7 bolt crank) oil pan (modified) - part# MD332043"

This is replacing the pan on my built DOHC 4g64 (shortblock from my 97 Spyder GS which is now in my GSX) It still runs the SOHC case, pump, t-belt pulleys, pickup etc.

Never played with a 6 bolt before, I was hoping someone can clue in the exact differences

I do know that the 7 bolts have a dip in the pan on the timing side as the oil pumps are shaped differently. I dont think it would be worth the time modifying it to work buts thats my O.

The is at least one more bolt hole on the 7 bolt oil pan. So the bolt pattern is different.
The 7 bolt oil pan lip where is seals against the engine isn't flat, it has a dip like earlier mentioned right at the oil pump/front case.
The shape is a little different. Some extra bend and dents in it.

There is no way you can get the 7bolt oil pan to fit a 6 bolt vice versa without major modification.
