Hey guys, just as the title states will a 3 bolt rear axle from a manual trans car fit on a 3 bolt rear on an automatic? I know the gearing is different between the two rears but I don't know if it's a different spline count as well. I have found a guy on here that will sell me the axle that I've been searching weeks for at a very reasonable price but his car is a manual and mine's auto.

I'm going to say no tentatively. Reason being a friend of mine who's doing a FWD to AWD swap bought a bunch of Auto parts only to find out that none would work for his 5-speed.

Hopefully someone else will be able to shed some more light on the subject. I'll continue to scour the forums as well.

What year is the car? 99 like your profile or older? I don't know the detail on 2g cars like I do 1g, but I thought after late 92, everything was 4 bolt.

I know on a 1g 4 bolt manual to 4 bolt auto, they will interchange.

but will a 3bolt standard axle go into a 3bolt auto?

I swapped my auto to manual and used the same 3bolt axles. Both rears were LSD, so I can't comment if there's a difference in that department, but i've heard there may be.
I've also heard there is a difference between ABS and non-ABS

Pretty sure almost all 2gs have ABS, I've heard of a difference between LSD and non-LSD. They are all 4bolts though.

According to Mitchell all 3 bolt axle's were the same part number, no change between manual or automatic. It does however matter if it is locking or non locking.

How can I tell if the car has a locking rear or not? I know that I do that the LSD and usually there is a sticker on the door jamb that says whether or not it's a locking rear and my car doesn't have that sticker.
