Does a wideband such as this provide a way for you to tune your car? does it just give you your exact air fuel ratio for information so you can tune with a different device such as an safc? If you have a wideband would you want a logger or the other way around?

Yes it just tells you A/F ratio far more accuratly than a narrow band. You still have to tune it with an outside device and a logger is still needed.

Widebands don't have anything in them that actually tunes the car. For that, you have to go with an AFC, AEM, DSMLink, or whatever else is out there now to make adjustments. Some things, such as the AEM and DSMLink will actually be able to log the wideband O2 for more accurate tuning. If you've already got a tuning tool/logger, a wideband O2 can only help you get a more accurate tune/logger reading. If you've got the wideband O2 and don't have a tuning tool/logger, it may shift you more towards a product that works WITH the wideband, like I mentioned.

Exactly what the others have stated... I got the xd16 gauge kit in my 90 TSi, but tune my fuel with a VPC.

Another thing to consider when tuning with a piggyback system. It's for WOT tuning. If you tune for 50% throttle, it'll make your car run horrible as the ecu will try to correct itself using it's pre-programmed maps. Obviously with AEM you'll have to do all the programming yourself, but if you're using the stock ECU, don't forget this...
