Why Modify a Car's Appearance?

All you guys rock!!!! I love reading about your reasons of why you modify your cars....

Some like the "go" aspect a little more, some like the "show" aspect a little more....

As for myself, I follow 2 basic rules:

#1.... I do what I like because it's my ride

#2.... You can't please everyone

Keep up the great work on your rides guys(and gals of course)!!!!

well all i spend was

2100 for rims and tires
1200 fmic
800 shocks and springs

and i get all the looks that a yellow car driveing down the street, or another car with a body kit and some bench wing

Everything is cool, expect hood pins, bookshelf wings, big ass dubs (on an import), bodykits, euro lights otherwise known as altezas (god I hate those bitches), and showy graphics (oh yeah I've seen something really ###, intercooler without a turbo or supercharger, I guess the guy forgot to take it off after he blew up his d16 LOL)

You don't have the resources or money to develop your own car. Get the one that's closests in appearance to how you want it to be, then get cheaper parts made to adjust it how you like it. Some call it a reflection of your personality. I dont know. I liked the eclipse, I liked the widebody kit they had for it. Car+Kit = WideBodyMitsu.

Mod cars because thats what we like to do. I love getting the stares as i drive through town, and my car is pretty much stock)

Theres lots of reasons. Some like the adrenaline rush of going fast, some like the looks they get, and the pounding of the subwoofers.

I myself... I like the speed mixed with the looks and pounding of the subs. I like to think of the car as an extension of my personality.. or an art form.

thats all cars are. They (the cars) are the canvas and the mechanics (us DSMers) are the artists.

I have always wanted to modify cars.
I'm pretty sure everyone’s cars started out as a dream in their mind. Those who pursue their dreams and bring them to reality experience gratification.
That's what it's about for me. I love it when people give me the peace sign, I love it when people stare, I love it when the kid in the Civic next to me is too scared to race, and I love it when my car is the center of discussions.
I've always wanted to show my car. And the show season is coming up fast! I still got around $5k more to spend to get my car where I'd like it. I only have 1/5th that money, but someway I will get it. I do what it takes to fulfill my dreams. Who doesn't?
I do it for myself. There’s a vision in my head of how I would like my car to look, and the only way to get it out, is to bring it to reality.

ok , you want info for your book, well i think it deoends on the person your asking like my friend likes a car to be clean and no kit and just performance mods. as for me i like to let people know im comin and for them to say " thats a bad a$$ car". but i still would go performance before looks.

I am the same way as alot of people. Mix the looks with the speed. But your always going to have narrow minded people downing one or the other. Working on your car comes down to what you like. There are things in this world to suit all. Tracks and strips for the speed fanatics, and car shows and just the daily cruise for the look seekers. I believe that you do what you want to your own car for your own pride. The dirty little smile as you destroy a v8 or the great feeling of a beautiful girl checkin out your car. Do it for yourself and never worry about the self concious people that down you.......

Unlike in the good old US of A DSMs here are quite rare and fall into the exoticar category already. Heck I get stares while I'm in stock form :thumb:

I started out doing little things to satisfy myself, painting the interior trim pieces so I don't drown in a sea of gray, changing the rims and tires is almost mandatory, I'm on my 3rd set.

A lot of people here will gag at this next statement, but the fast and the furious showed me what could be done to my car. Like other people, I love the stares that other people give and you can even see them mouth "SSSHHHHIIIIIIIITTTTTT, nice car!" as you cruise along.

At first I didnt think much of performance 'since the stock 210 hp is enough to demolish almost any car out here, I don;t know if its a good thing or a bad thing but we have no import vs. muscle car thing going on here.

then I met up with a couple of dsms here and one guy was pushing 400hp already. Suffice to say after that, performance became part of the equation. So since then, I have raised the boost, added a 50 shot, front mount, intake and exhaust piping and big brakes.

As for the personal philosophy part, its okay to have show, just make sure to back it up with some go.

very true...same thing that happened to me everybody thought my car was a piece and was totally slow...and they asked me to race and I smoked a bunch of civics with mods and a couple of Ford probe GT's and my car is completely stock..after that I got alot of respect for my car...

anyways back on topic..reason why I modify my body of my car is for myself and eye candy for everybody else..even though I am going for orginality..something diffrent and that isn't expected to be seen or done..or has been done but not seen before in this city..like remote neons, stobes for example even though they are not on my car..but I would say orginality all the way
