I'm 19 recently bought a 1990 talon tsi awd as my first car. It came with a megan racing downpipe and that's it. It's super loud and I can't stand to make my neighbors suffer much longer. I'm really broke because I just bought the car and I can't for the life of me even find an ebay catback system for under $350. Local shop quoted me "a few hundred bucks" for a 3 inch straight pipe. Where are all the cheap ebay systems? Please someone help me out.

I love my eBay (DNA/speed daddy) exhaust. Fitment was perfect, mandrel bends, very nice welds, no rattles and sounds nasty as hell. Cost under $200 for DP and catback. If you don't want an exhaust to rust, paint it with rustoleum or vht clear before install.
My 10 year old apexi ws2/ Megan DP combo is rusted to sh*t. Approximate cost new: $800. I've had to get it fixed twice already. Its much quiter than the ebay (although I do have a hi flow cat on the apexi, catless on DNA), and hangs too low for my liking.
I realize 10 years in the northeast is a long time, but I'd much rather pay $200 than double or triple that and have it last just as long.

How can you even drive it without any back pressure? I did the same thing but mine drove like crud. I had to take it back and have the rest put on. Unfortunately it will probably cost 3 bills now or 5 later.

All exhaust and egt is removed. I didn't do it myself. Runs fantastic other than an annoying drone when I'm off the gas.

For a cheap catback, eBay from I love taco taco has a 90-94 with muffler for $249.99 shipped. I got it, it's stainless steel and fits perfectly on my 1990 awd. I was absolutely stunned on how well it fit. I also bought a dna downpipe but I've not got a chance to test how loud it is due to creating my own "test pipe" to replace the cat I've never had. I know a local guy to me in Pennsylvania that does turbo back aluminum exhausts for $550 but he'll need the car for a few days to get it all placed correctly but told me he'll take payments. Not sure your location though. Anything is way better than open downpipe...

Awesome. I'll look into the taco kit. I wonder why they have that it fits the integra on ebay. No wonder I couldn't find it. I'm curious how it sounds. Do you have any videos? I'll do some research right now.

I'd of liked to grab a test pipe premade but I think the ones on eBay for $30 are meant for stock downpipes as it's 2.25 on both ends. Megan sells one it's $90~ just for it in 3" and that's plain robbery imo. Rather buy a buschur 3" high flow cat slip fit for $150 if I'm paying that much

Hack this up to fit between downpipe and catback with

http://m.ebay.com/itm/3-2-bolt-Exhaust-Flange-/221708433770?_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20150519202348%26meid%3D343278ca3671486e968517027bca54ab%26pid%3D100408%26rk%3D2%26rkt%3D3%26sd%3D201370864790&_trksid=p2056116.c100408.m2460

This flange welded on and you'll be golden.

Kinda pricey for an eBay kit overall and a headache due to measurements on the pipe to cut ( I think 19.25-19.5 will be correct length overall with flange welded on but not 100% yet)
eh I think $76 and free shipping for the megan test pipe will be worth it. At least I know it'll fit and I won't have to do any custom fab work.

That sounds like the best plan so far.
Good luck, I hope it sounds like you want it to. I am certain your neighbors will appreciate it!

Are you still struggling with this? I was pretty sure you got great advice from a couple good sources (tmoney, bastarddsm) That dynomax bullet muffler is a muffler the same way a resonator is a muffler, it's meant only to take some harshness out of the exhaust note, When I was drag racing the guys with destroked engines needed them because they were spinning small block chevys to 9k and they get high pitched. But I guess as long as you get what you need at the end. good luck.

Oh well. Already have it now. Hoping it gives me at least a little back pressure.

...If your car is turbocharged you don't exactly want backpressure. this isn't a civic. But that's a matter you need to do some research on.
I understand the concept. I'd like to get rid of the weird gargle when I'm off the gas.

do what I do. look at your passenger and just go rabble rabble rabble. (or at least that's what mine sounds like a decel) and if you don't get that. go watch some south park.

Seriously though, I like the gargling sound, but to get rid of it you gotta put a real muffler on the car.

haha i got you. Oh well, I'll just get that ebay exhaust once I can afford it.

Good way to go, Just be aware that they consider it a catback, so someone please correct me if I am wrong but I believe you'll need the test pipe as well, as there is a small section that goes between your downpipe and the catback.

Or you can be like me and put a range rover muffler on! thing is like 14" long and basically looks like a bullet muffler but they definitely put some technology into taking out harsh noises.

yeah i'll bite the bullet and go with the megan test pipe.

1G AWD APEXi N1 Cat Back
$310
90631
Selling my real APEXi N1 cat back exhaust system. It's 2-1/2 inch to a 4 inch tip. This exhaust gives a nice throaty deep growl. But you already knew that. Comes with new gaskets and all hardware including hangers and bolts to make it as simple an install as possible. Fits all 1G AWD DSMs (90-94). I'm willing to deliver the exhaust to you if you are moderately close. Make me an offer I want this gone.

Thank you for looking.
