Spent the entire day trying to get it to connect with zero success. I've read all sorts of forums and sites with troubleshooting advice and none of it has helped. I'm pretty much out of options at this point. Everything is installed and hooked up correctly(i'm using a keyspan adapter), I have all the ports set right, everything SHOULD work, yet when I hit the capture button I keep getting

Failed: 'java.io.IOException command timed out'

It was suggested that I try editing the following in the preferences file, which I did. Didn't work.

cmdReplyTimeoutMillis=1000
interByteDelayMillis=40
interCommandDelayMillis=40

and before I get a bunch of "visit their user forum" posts, the owner transfer hasn't been taken care of yet due to the weekend so I unfortunately can't get onto their forums :coy:

Ok you should try a differnt usb port on your computer or go to Edit then Options then Config and change the com port. Try all of them. Thats the only thing i can think of why it wouldnt hook up. Let me know if that helped at all.

Try connecting with the car off the first time. I had this same problem, and it was solved by having the key turned to "On", but the engine off.

As far as I know, many issues regarding connections are in direct relation to poor wiring connections, splicing, and soldering.

Went thru all of that today. Believe me I tried EVERYTHING. Every physical USB port as well as many, MANY different com ports. No combination of any of them would work.

Been trying that method this whole time. Was gonna try doing it with the car started, but I discovered it won't start ROFL Probably because of the previous settings stored on the chip from the person i bought it from.

Well, it came directly off a working car so I see no reason why it shouldn't work for me too since it's all the same wires.

I had a bunch of problems trying to connect when I first bought my car as well. I would try to get the owner transfer done as soon as possible so you can use DSMLink's forums.

I don't know if it will help you, but my problem was the actual adapter that plugs into the OBD II port to USB cable. I sent it to them and they replaced it for a small fee.

But like I said, try to transfer the ownership sooner the better, because they'll be able to help you best.

Do you have the proper driver installed for you keyspan?

I'm not sure if you know, but you can see what comm port the usb is using by going to start-my computer(right click)-properties-hardware tab-click device manager-then there should be a list and in there somewhere there will be comm ports, and you can see which one your using. Good luck!

First verify that the keyspan in correctly installed and in device manager verify the port that it is using. Then in dsmlink select that same port under config. Other than that the problem has to do with the physical installation wires etc.

Well, it looks like it could be a problem with my diagnostic port itself. I tried hooking my palm back up today and now that doesn't seem to want to work either. Really strange.
