Well I've tried everything in the book. I'm stumped my DSMLink will not make a connection but a regular auto parts store scanner does just fine  I've checked all my grounds and all with a volts meter and still just my luck nothing. I checked my radio fuse like everyone says to mine, is fine, my key ring lights up, my cigg. lighter works just fine.

If anyone has a word of advice I can try or set me on the right path to fixing this I would appreciate it very much :hellyeah:

And mind you, that I just got this ECU upgraded from v2 to full v3 not light. I have a brand new cable from ECMTuning and software. So my ECU is just fine and I've tried 3 different laptops. I've tried just about everything I can think of or read up on :ohdamn:

I had the same problem tried everything, so i ran wires direct from the ecu to the dsmlink cable and it connected OK.

so i measured the wire's from the ecu to the obd2 port, i found out that i had a resistance in the pink wire, so i wired a new wire from the ecu to the obd2 port

Did you have the key turned. The key must be in the on position for link to sync. Engine doesnt have to be runnin but the key must be turn to the "on" position.

With my wife's laptop only one USB port on the computer will connect to the car. They work fine with anything else but will not connect to the ECU. I think some computers have issues with the connection timing out before it can connect. Same thing happens with iPods. Sometimes you have to reset them before syncing them or they will freeze from a usb bus timeout.

Try using another port/computer and see if it works. Then you will know if it is a problem on the car's end or the PC's end.

Make sure you have the latest version of the software downloaded too.

Yeah, I have the latest version of software downloaded on my laptop now but that didn't seem to work and yes I have the key to the on position :thumb: I know sometimes I can miss little things like that but I've had it to the on position. And I'll try it on my computer again tomorrow because it is so freaking cold here in Colorado :sosad: but I thank you guys for all your input! :hellyeah: Believe it or not it gives me hope :D because I was about to sell everything!

And goechelaar which pin did you run the new wire to on the ECU?

I run a Mitsubishi RVR ecu in my dsm so the pin numbers are different, but in my case it was the pink wire, this is the data line.

This is what u need to wire

OBD2 -> ECU
Pin 1 Diagnostic line to ECU (connector B-55, pin 56, yellow)
Pin 5 Ground
Pin 7 Data line to ECU (connector B-55, pin 62, pink)
Pin 16 is not needed for ecmlink V3

Power on the OBD2 port is not needed for the V3 cable. Only chassis
ground and the data/diag pins. Refer to the "diagnostic port wiring"
under "2G notes" on this page for details on the OBD2 pinout.

Ok i will check my wiring, and i will do that right now snowborder714. I will update in about 20 minuets. :thumb:

So yes i installed the software for the cable, driver software but still no luck.:barf::ohdamn::banghead::idontknow:. I am sitting in my car as we speak. I am going to roll this thing off a cliff!!! ahhhhhh:notgood::beatentodeath:

I have tried everything, just my luck. I'll just keep trying random stuff to try and connect. But I do appreciate all your guys input thank you again. :hellyeah:

So:

1. You have the key in the ON position (not Acc).
2. You have the v3 cable plugged into the OBDII port and USB port on the laptop.
3. The laptop has the latest software and cable driver installed.
4. You fire up ECMlink and click the connect button.
5. The light on the cable blinks.
6. You don't get a connection.

-you have it configured for 2g V3
-you have it configured to automatically scan the COM ports

If you go into the Device Manager do you see the cable under the Ports section?

Have you gone through everything in this link to check and verify?

Can you start the car?

Yeah man I have done just that to the T. No connection but I know it is something wrong in my car now because I just tried my v3 ECU on one of my buddies cars, with my cable and my laptop and it connected just fine! That was a 95 GSX, bone stock, just threw DSMLink in to see if it would connect and BAM! connected.

So there has to be something I am missing in my car :ohdamn::cry::sosad::WTF::confused::beatentodeath::idontknow:

You can buzz out the wire connection between the ecu and the connectors that goes to the dash cable harness, and to the OBD2 port with a multimeter.
measure the resistant of them it has to be 0 ohm.

O and be carefull dont push the tips of the multimeter to hard in the obd port or you wil damage the connectors.
best way is to insert a smaller wire.

This can be also the problem that one of the pins of the obd connector is damaged

That's what i was thinking of doing is just going through all the wires and making sure that they were making a good connection. Also just looking at a stock harness and comparing it to mine and pulling up the pin out for the whole entire harness and matching them color for color pin for pin:aha::confused::cry: that's going to be alot of pins.:(

The OBDII port only has 4 wires. It should take you 5-10 minutes tops, with most of the time spent finding the other end of the wires. Again, see the link I posted above (posted here again for you). The section is titled "Diagnostic port wiring".

Upgrade your firmware

This shouldn't cause any connection issues. Either way, he just purchased a new v3 full setup, which the latest firmware is from 1/3/13. I'd be surprised if he had an older firmware version.

ok i will have to try it tomorrow man i really appreciate your time and input snowborder714. i will update tomorrow :thumb:

You may have a bad cable, you may be missing drivers, you may have a bad USB port, or maybe a few other things.

1. Try squeezing the box part of the cable where the LED is when connecting.
2. Make sure you have the drivers installed. If you do, try uninstalling the drivers and reinstalling.
3. Try a different USB port.
4. Try a different computer.
5. See if you can find a friend with a cable to try a different one.
