Who is running long route FMIC piping?

Just want peoples experience with long route piping. Does it cause your turbo to spool slower. For under $300 for a whole kit I might as well try the longroute for now. So anyone with experience with long route please enlighten me on how good or bad it is.

Your throttle response will be reduced. "Spool up" is not really the term. I prefer short route, but I doubt you'd be dissapointed with the long route.

When I say spool up I ment will it cause the turbo to have more turbo lag due to the long piping. You would think with all that piping it would cause you to have real bad turbo lag and worse throttle response. I never though about going long route untill Ive heard such good things about the xspower upgrade but mainly with the 2g' with short route. Its just the long piping looks like it would hurt the car more than help. More info please.

i ran a big16g with the greddy fmic long route piping. i didnt experince much lag at all. i have short route now and i really dont feel that much of a difference. unless you are trying to get some serious track times and want the most you can get out of anything then id say go short route. but if its just a daily driven street car then save the bucks and get the long route kit. put that money into something else in my opinion. hope that helps

Thank you this is what kind of a responce I was looking for. Rep points for you!! So you said when you switched from long to short you didnt even notice a difference. Thats cool, I think im going to get the cheap long route kit. Any more experience would be appreciated.

yea i didnt know much difference at all. im just curious how much are you spedning on this long route kit? check out those ebay fmic kits. i bought one for 295 shipped and i love it. its pressure tested to like 50 lbs and can handle up to 600whp

Yes thats what im looking at getting, but the company only sells long route kits for the 1g. For the price it looks like a good deal.

I have had both, there isnt much difference. The turbo moves so much air it doesnt even matter, the differences will be un-noticable. If anything try for a less turbulant flow.. I did notice a difference there. I went from about 13 couplers and some crazy bends on my old set up, to welding my piping flush with each conection in my basement and have only 5 couplers. I did feel a difference there. Now I have the SS 2G core with that sort route piping and its all feels the same.

JayRolla There is one downside to that longroute fmic piping from ebay. It is the couplers. They are not silicone so they suck big time. I have that kit right now with an e316g and I blow off a pipe everytime I go over 10psi. mine are even Tbolt clamped. What I am trying to say is that it will not just cost you 295 for the piping, you will need to buy silicone couplers also.

Why dont you just weld some beads on the end of the piping for free and use the crappy couplers. They should still hold

Honestly speaking you'll only feel the difference for about a week. After that you get used to it. I went from stock turbo and sidemount to front mount and 16g so yeah i felt a difference. Now though 4 months later I cant remember it being different its normal now to me

What you had long route piping before and when you switched to short you could feel a difference?

This responce has nothing to do with what hes asking.Then fact you switched turbos will affect spool time. The turbo is not a variable in this equation. Thats like me saying I went from a t-25 with short route piping to a full garrett hybrid and long route and asking why my car spools at 4500?....is it the long route piping? No.

i got full boost 300 rpm sooner with long route piping than i did with my sidemount, i wouldn't worry about it

Thanks thats what I really wanted to hear. My brother is running short route and it helped his spool also. I thought it would really hurt the spool. Thanks man more rep points going out.

Just some information for you in regards to short route piping--
The main goal of this for people is to decrease turbo lag, however if you do the calculations there is really no noticable effect of short route piping.

-Let's say you use 2.5" intercooler piping and (exaggeration) save 5 feet of piping by going short route instead of stock, this means you just removed about 295 cubic inches of volume (pi x 1.25"^2 x 60")
-Suppose you flow 20 lbs/min (not a huge number by any means), that translates into 7579 in^3/second (20/.076 x 12^3 / 60)
This equates to you shaving off 295in^3/{7579in^3/s), or .0389 seconds off your spool time.

Even if you argue about the effect of bends in pipes or related topics, you still won't add enough time to make it significant.

No factory piping is pretty short. i did an Ebay kit 22x9x3 core greddy upper ic kit, its much longer then stock and i felt a difference, but it was also because the turbo takes longer to spool. After a week you forget and it feels normal. Ebay isnt that bad just make sure the pipe kit you get has reinforced couplers. I also had to get all my pipes beaded, it was a pain but in the end im happy. Ive heard many good things about that SS kit even if it comes missing a piece or two. I didnt like the idea of having to cut the area by the radiator support. Also I didnt want to see my new Greddy upper kit go to waste

This is it right here, nothing is more solid than numbers....they are prooven. The turbo moves so much air that, like stated above, the piping length would have to be significantly longer. Ofcourse, if someone asks me Ill say I have a FMIC with short route piping So bragging rights with little meaning? Eh, sure.

And on topic, whatever you do make sure you either bead your pipes or use long sections of couplers if at all possible. After boost hits the couplers do slide a little bit (without beads) even with t-bolts, and if you have short couplers like I do they WILL blow--I'm paying the price for a stupid mistake like that now.

Oh yea i have lots of friends that have FMIC's and we make sure we put beads on them everytime expecially at the 30psi levels some of them run.
