Alright guys, well I just finished my 14B install in my 95 GSX. All is well besides some minor oil leaks on the return line and the SS feed line at the filter housing. There was also a VERY minor coolant leak from the front banjo bolt on the turbo. I tightened it a tad and I think i went away. Now the turbo is spooling really late because I think there may be a leak before the turbo.
Now on to the problems.

1. The turbo does not smoke at all besides at WOT sometimes it blows out whiteish grey smoke. I'm trying to think of where it could be burning coolant. It never did this before the turbo install.

2. There was some white smoke the past 2 days at the manifold. I'm thinking its the shitload of PB Blaster that I sprayed all over the car but I'm not sure.

3. There's a smell coming from my engine that I can smell if I pop my hood and it becomes more noticeable when I'm driving and really get on it. It smells like burning plastic sort of, with a mix of burning rubber. The lower heat shield is not on the car because it's a pain to get on and I haven't put it back on because I haven't had time. Nothing is touching anything hot so I 'm confused...The only possible thing is maybe I pout on a new 4 ply exhaust mani. gasket as well as antiseize on most of the bolts and the turbo-mani. bolts.

Any help? Thanks.

Lmao H@xtGSX you crack me up LOL. But on a more SERIOUS(!!!) note :p , I'm not the best at being able to smell and distinguish between everything. My car really seems super healthy idk what I could have done. Everything seems to be fine. I thought it was because I just hadn't driven it in a while.

You might take a look at the PCV valve... If it is hung open and sucking oil down the intake, viola! White smoke. The other thing that'll make it smoke a little when you first start it up, and maybe a little every once in a while is the valve seals. They are easy enough to change, but you have to take the cams out and remove the valve springs, which isn't quite so easy with the head still on the car.

Hard to say. Ive pulled heads for a blown gasket and found them cracked. Ticking noise could be lifters or a burr on a bearing

Is it using any coolant? Run it for about 30 seconds, pull your radiator cap and smell the coolant. If it smells burned thats a dead giveaway

i had the same problem, my car was sitting for 8 months and had a bunch of steam coming out of it when i first started it up but after driving it around for a day it pretty much went away, also if its really cold out you will see this alot more than on a hot day

If the car has been sitting for a while there is going to be alot of white smoke. One of my cars sat for 2-3 years and when I finally got it running, my God the smoke screen that thing put out. I drove it all day eventually the smoke did go away and regular driving conditions were restored. It does depend on the smoke too. Easy way to tell if its coolant is if the smoke that comes out of the tail pipe just sits on the floor, rolls along like fog and is a thick white color, coolant. On top of that it's going to have a kind of sweet smell to it. If its thin white smoke that vanishes right away, that's built up condensation in your exhaust system that's burning off. You'll see this mainly in the colder season.

Is it a tick or a knock?

Tick = HLAs, valvetrain
Knock = rod/main bearing, bottom end

I havent had the car on in about a week, im pretty sure its ticking, hopefully.

Anyway if the white smoke is the head gasket has anyone had experience with "Bar's head gasket repair?" Its a $20 bottle thats supposed to fix it without having to pay the thousands to rebuild it.

If something that cheap and easy actually worked and didn't destroy other parts of the engine, why would the rest of use pay all the money to fix a hg?:thumb:

It's not thousands if you do it yourself either. I had my head pressure checked, leveled, valve job, and the head bolt holes reemed for 6bolt studs all for $200 including a tip. Gaskets and such tops is around $200. If you do it yourself its not bad at all.

Dumping a can of black pepper in your rad to seal a leak works better than that junk.

If you had the smallest of leaks in the casting, some sort of "liquid glass" would seal it for a bit.

Black pepper, you say... Hmmmm.... :aha:

ROFL

Yea, that stuff just makes a mess you'll wind up having to flush and flush and flush and flush and....you get the point... to get out of the block, radiator, and pump.

And you can make a temp fan belt out of your girlfriend's pantyhose too...

Actually, that pantyhose nylon is pretty tough stuff if you twist it up like rope... That might work for a little ways. How you'd tension it up would be a problem... LOL

Really, if I'm getting my girl's pantyhose, the fan belt would be the last thing on my mind. :sneaky:
