White, plastic spacer between IM and head?

What is this white plastic looking spacer thing between my intake manifold and head? What does it do?

It is called a "phenolic" spacer it keeps some of the heat away from IM so you make more power..less intake heat more dense air more power

Yes they are nifty device's too. Something we stole from the Honda guys were originally started using it. Reduces intake temps. a little bit. Not a whole lot but every little bit helps to reduce knock.
