Whine in 1st gear only. Was fine, isn't now.

Transmission has 150k on it.

Syncros are all good.

No lateral or axial play in the intermediate shaft upon reinstall (just built a motor and put it in a few days ago).

New/properly re-stepped flywheel, new clutch/pressure plate (yes it was aligned), new OEM TOB/Clutch Fork/Pivot Ball/Slave/SS Line/Master.

Yes the transmission was aligned with new dowel pins.

Yes the shifter bracket is secured down properly.

It goes into all gears effortlessly.

Last year before I parked the car this was not happening. There may have been a little whine but I'm sure it was a belt. This year the transmission had the case cleaned (pressure washer/blocked off vital spots).

Any hints?

Here is an updated, after some researching it turns out the bearings my intermediate shaft rotates on could be worn? I decided to suppose the engine/tranny and loosen the bolts to see if it aligned according to the dowels properly...it did. No change after the jostling.

Sounds a bit like a transfer case whine. I'll get my camera out and take a video of it. Had a freak accident on easter where my hood decided to try and hug me going down the road and shatter my windshield...so that should be getting replaced today/tomorrow. I may just sneak a quick round the block video in...not being able to play with the DSM is driving me nuts.

And yes, everything works perfectly. Good linkage, fresh fluid (gm syncromesh, 3qt), goes into every gear like butter, no grinding.

Mine has always made the same noise for 40k+ miles(since I've owned it). I assumed that's just a typical noise they make. Every dsm I've ever driven has made that noise, but I'm not an expert.

Input shaft is toast, or very close to it... Mine was like that, then 1st ended up in pieces. Now my buddies 2.4l turbo is doing it. It will start in first, then move up the gears until all of them do it.

same thing here after just getting my dogbox stage 2 tranny with 4 spider and slow boy lsd front diff. I was wondering what it was

From reading around I've heard it can be bad but also a lot of cars run into this issue and the tranny never gives them issues. I have had mine since I got my engine and beat the crap out of it and it is no louder or different then day one. Only in first gear and feels completely normal.

Mine has been whining since forever, even after rebuilds and fresh bearings.

Plus because of the Fidanza flywheel, it does multiple other sounds. Get used to it.
