ive been putting 10w30 in my 420a engine, and im going to do an oil change in a few days, what kind of oil should i use, and is any filter better than another? also, how many quarts?

Read your manual. It specifies what oil viscosity you should use and the capacity.
Don't spend $5-6 a QT for synthetic on an NT.

On filters, anything but FRAM. I say this decisively having owned my car for 15years and seeing firsthand that swiching away from FRAM helped aleviate my lifter tick. Purulator is one of my favorites.

castrol synthetic 10w30 and a napa gold oil filter. dont use fram they mess up your engine.

Because it's been empirically proved in previous threads to not matter, we do not do "best oil" threads here.

And there is nothing wrong with either Fram filters, nor Pennzoil motor oils. Stop getting mechanical myths from your grandmothers.

I have been using mobil1 15w-50 since I have had my car. I went to pick up some oil for a change and apparently they are no longer making 15w-50. I picked up a jug of mobil1 5w-30 high performance driving formula instead.

I dont like decreasing the weight so much but I wanted to stick with mobil. What are you guys using these days?

I don't know what is required at that latitude, but my manual says 5W-30 for cold climate. Maybe Mobil 1 0W-30 synthetic. I run 5W-30 or 10W-30 depending on the season (20*F winters and 90*F summers).

I only drive my car in the summer so thats not really an issue. Weather here is about the same as you though

Mobil 1 still makes 15w50, it's called the Extended Performance oil now. Supposedly lasts 15,000 miles as advertised, but I wouldn't keep it in longer than any other oil, 3000 miles. 10w30 is the most popular here, maybe 10w40 if youre beating on it. The 2nd number is the important one for engine wear, the first number is only for cold starts and winter conditions.

Valvoline Syn Power Synth 10w30

used to run Mobile but i like the valvoline better

If you're dumping synthetic oil after 3000 miles, maybe you could bottle it and send it to me. I'll get the other 15,000 miles out of it.

Oh crap. Let's not do the synth vs. regular debate again.

Its the filter that I wouldent trust anyways. Might as well change the oil when you pull the filter off and dump the expensive stuff everywheres

I dont want to get into a big debate but im about to do a oil change and i was looking for
Amsoil Turbo Formulated 10w-30 the other day and i just couldnt find it anywhere, so i saw some royal purple but i looked on the bottle and said synthetic.
Now ive read alot of discussion about this stuff, so i opted not to pick up any oil for the time being. But i heard i shouldnt just throw in synthetic, ive been using non synthetic oil, and i heard that with the synthetic oils they leak pass seals and such...
Is this amsoil turbo formulated oil synthetic?
My car just hit the 90k mark what oil should i use? i drive it every single day so it gets lots of use
Also what good filter should i use? i heard the filter has alot to do with lifter tic, but i dont want to go down to the mitsubi dealership to pick one up.

You could always start with a synthetic blend for the next few changes then throw in a full synthetic. If you're car is in good mechanical shape and has been taken care of switching to synthetic shoulden't be a problem

i use royal purple 15w 50 its spendy and u have to search to find it i order mine from a racing website.

Isnt 50 alittle to sluggish?
I remember i put in some 20w-50 in one of my other vehicles and i could tell the oil was just to thick.

i just had my motor rebuilt by a machine shop thats been doing work for 32 years and he put 15w 40 diesel/gasoline engine oil in the car. the car runs great, my oil pressure when in gear is just above 20 pounds at 200 degrees.

20PSI while driving?

shouldnt typical oil pressure be 20 - 25 at idle, and and clime steady 75psi+

Hi I just bought 95 eagle talon tsi awd 5 speed, with 139.482 mile. The preview ower been running regular pennzoil for year ( I wish he was running synstec oil ). The car have no problem right now , just lift tick, no leak what so ever. I hate using pennzoil oil, what other brand you guy recomment . thanks in advance.

I use Mobil 1. Some people have had problems with oil leaks when they switch to sythetic oil with a higher mileage engine. If I were you I would switch to synthetic. The brand that you run is up to you. As far as your lifter tick, search "sea foam" on here, and give it a try. IMO that stuff works wonders.

My 1995 Talon TSi has 187,435 miles and I use the Mobil Extended Performance 15-50 works great!

I use Mobil 1 on both my DSM's. No one ever bad mouths Mobil 1 except for the price.

I use castrol GTX and it works great. I dont get any lifter tick with that oil either and i have never used seafoam. From what i have read though seafoam works incredibly well with these engine and all types of others.

I use the Vavoline Race Oil 20W50 just like fast talon uses on both my 91 TSi and my 95 acura integra. I think I have gone through every motor oil listed so far on this thread and like the Vavoline Race Oil the most. The price is very reasonable, and its good with higher mileage vehicles. Just make sure you use something like this or a full synthetic. Remember, you get what you pay for!
