5w30 in "winter" 10w30 in "summer" basically when its constantly below 50degrees, switch to 5w30 - per manufacturer.

So what is the group consensus on switching to synthetic, to flush the engine or not to flush the engine? I have heard that the synthetic and regular oil do not mix while I have also read in a magazine that they do mix. what do you all think?

if your lifters tick or your car has high miles, drain the oil, change filter, and fill up on automatic transmission fluid. run the car for 15 minutes, change oil (preferrable M1) and filter, and there you go--engine flush. An old trick but still works

oh yeah, and try not to burn yourself like i did

i work at a lube shop and flushing out your motor before switching would be the best way, but you will get leaks when running full synthetic, but don't worry they'll go away, those leaks are because the synthetic oil has to recondition the seals, so for about 2 or 3 oil changes it will leak.

Redline 10w-30 but I would also recommend Amsoil or Royal Purple. If you're cheap then mobil1.

Mobile 1 is very good oil. There are no issues with Mobile 1. Royal purple or Amsoil aren't that much "better", but they are significantly more expensive.

if you do a little bit of averaging, this comes out to just about 15w40... so you could save yourself some time and a little cash by just buying a 5qt jug of 15w40

i have a question on this topic now... why do some of you guys use 10w40+?? i mentioned it to someone at work, and they had the same thoughts that i do, why? i'd really like to know if using 5 or 10w30 (mobil 1) is the better or not good enough for my car.

I use Mobil One 10/30 and a Purolator One oil filter. I have a rebuilt engine with about hrmmmm 12,000 miles on it and the head its factory new. I dont mean rebuilt, i mean NEW and I have the worse lifter tick in the world. I can hear it over my subs :)

I thought something had come loose so I pulled the cover and inspected my lifters. Everything checks out. Who knows, I've just learned to live with it.

As far as the filters with the anti-leak back what all ones offer this? I heard that the K&N Oil Filters offer this. Anyone ever used one?

I use Amsoil synthetic Series 2000 Racing Oil 20w50 on my 1995 Eclipse GST automatic, has 68K miles and also the Transmission has Amsoil Synthetic ATF oil.. and Amsoil oil filter,

The engine no deposits, if you remove the valve cover oil cap, you can take a look inside de cover and everything is MEGA CLEAN, the Camshaft are shinnig like a mirror, no black stuff inside....

well, i am planning to change my oil sometime this week, and i went to kragen to buy the filter and oil. I asked the person working there which one is better... 10w 30 or 10w 40, he said that when your car is over 100,000 mi, that's when you use 10w 40, but under taht 10w 30 is recommend...

The RS is the top of the line oil from Castrol, it is normally used in racing cars.

Never heard of 10w60, but 60 is far too thick for a 4g63.

I normally change my oil and filter every 2500 miles, and I usually use M1 10w30 fully synthetic with the oem oil filter. Although I have just recently switched over to M1 15w50 to try it out.
