i have an internal wg turbo and i want to get an o2 housing, but i don't know which one. Not brand wise...but reroutes or dump to atmosphere. or do i even have a choice?

You can get mitsubishi-flanged internal WG O2 housings that either reroute or dump. Do your homework before buying anything, though; the outlet of the O2 housing may not fit a stock DP in terms of both the bolt pattern and inside diameter. You don't want a sudden decrease in diameter in the exhaust or you could actually decrease performance.

Yeah you dont want it to bottle neck, meaning beer entering mouth, you dont want exhaust being crammed out. anyway Punishment-racing.com sells some bad a$$ O2 housings
Fortunatly beer doesnt mind it.

HAHA! That's funny [as I chug, chug, chug].

Seriously, gettign a smooth wide o2 housing will likely yield better results than upgrading to a performance exhaust mani for a street setup. So doing your research will help lots here. id get a one that matches your turbine outlet diameter. An evo3 16g o2 housing has a 2.5" diameter inlet and outlet. This matches turbine outlets that use the BEP turbine housing and PTE turbine housing. And obviously the evo3 16g. Which housing do you have is the question?

I think all pte and BEP turbine housings have a 2.5 inch outlet.

I just installed my Punishment Racing O2 housing w/ dump and I must say that it sounds awesome! It is pretty loud when you really get on it. If you want some attention go with the dump if not you better stick with it routed back into the exhaust. Its really all about personal preference.

I was thinking about going with a 3inch rerouted tubular o2 housing that I can set external waste gate up on....
I currently run a fully ported evo3 o2 housing... From the sounds of it, your saying your car got louder from putting the tubular o2 housing? Im at the point im hopeing all my further mods make it quieter LOL...

I agree, quieter is better. At least for me. Less heat score and you can have a conversation in the car without yelling. :p Cheers, Tom.

If the O2 housing reroutes the wastegate flow back into the exhaust it's much quieter than if the O2 housing just dumps that wastegate flow to atmosphere (which is illegal and very loud, so keep that in mind). I don't think a tubular vs. cast housing will make a big difference in sound level. So it sounds like you want an O2 housing that reroutes back to the exhaust.

Another thing to consider is the wastegate itself. If you're going with a creep-prone turbo like an EVO3 Big16g, you might want to consider an O2 housing with an external wastegate flange. That makes the piping more part-specific if you want to reroute back to the exhaust, because the wastegate flow will go through the O2 housing, through the external wastegate, then through a different pipe back to the downpipe, so the O2 housing would have to be flanged for an external WG, and the return tube would have to connect the WG exit back to whatever DP you have. I'm not sure if you can buy kits, but it could certainly be fabricated. Anyway, if you do this, then you would eliminate the internal flapper (have just an open hole in the turbine housing) which would most likely do the trick with creep.

I just switched from internal gate to external gate and i picked up a new turbine housing, straight line specialties 02 housing and tial 38. I got it recirculated because its much tidier, cleaner and quieter plus it looks pretty sick :)

Punishment racing also makes the same piece at a slightly cheaper price.

Here are some pics to show you how it looks/fits.

PS: I was just running an evo 3 o2 housing and it doesnt match up to the regular downpipes correctly so keep that in mind if you want to get one of those.

thanks for all the input, but i really think the dump o2's are what i'm looking for. what's a ticket? LOL

Since you are in CA, get an internal gate one from punishment racing or port your 2G one depending on your turbo setup.

I have no experience with this O2 housing, but merging WG flow back into turbine flow at 90* is not ideal. The stock O2 housing and many aftermarket tubular housings merge at a better angle. I'd think that a dump connecting to the DP before the flex section would be more efficient.

all this info helps...thanks guys. now i just need to figure out the bolt pattern. my turbo doesnt come in for a while so i don't know.

Hmm, this is kind of what I have in mind as far as what I want to do.
I just wonder if it will provide any benefits over my current ported evo3 o2 housing set up.
Reason I am looking into doing this ( after I get cams ) is because the next step will be a 50trim variance turbo and I will need the external w.g. so figured id get a bolt on set up like that. And also my evo3 o2 causes my dp to sit smack against the transfer case in which causes a very annoying rattle and vibration under the car that I dont like.
So hopefully this o2 housing set up wont do that. Curious on any power gains or anything though?

Yeah, i had an evo 3 housing before this so i know about the fitment issues. This fits like stock.

As far as power gains, im not sure but i know that boost comes on harder with the external but that's because my internal gate actuator spring was on its last leg.
