I've got two heads sitting here waiting to go in my car, but I don't know which one to use.

Head #1

Mild Port Brian Crower spings and retainers, oem valves. 5k miles on it..

Head #2

Mild Port Manley Springs and retainers, oem valves. 10k miles on it...

I will be putting BC 280 cams in it.

GO!

Manley are far better springs.

Get the one with the manley springs, hands down the manley.

Well I have them both, just this decides which head im going to put the cams on and in the car. Other is gonna be a back up head.

The thing about the head with BC is that it was fully redone, cleaned, decked so on, the one with manleys just had the springs and valves replaced. My bro is bringing over the head with manleys this next week, but i think the port is bigger on the head with BCs.

Oh and these manley springs are just the single springs.

ok take of the bc ones and replace with manley:thumb:

That's ridiculous. The BC springs are MORE than adequate for the BC 280s. It's a no brainer to retain them especially when they have 1/2 the mileage. :thumb:

I was set to switch the springs until saw this :hmm:

But does the 5k miles really make that big of a difference between going with the "better" spring Manley over the BCs

I talked to a guy from Brian Crower, he said that the Manley springs are high quality and can go 9k+ RPMs, but they also said the same thing about theirs :p

So that didn't help me much.

I've decided to use the head with the BCs in it, still deciding on what springs...

I'll post this again, and I'll keep posting it until people start realizing that cheaper isn't always better.

My friend's BC springs revved to no more than 8000rpm for less than 5k miles:

I like this guy. Pics to back up what he's saying, non 13 second time slips and good dyno numbers in his signature, and an avatar of his car at the track and not in a parking lot somewhere.

I've also been researching cam/valvetrain stuff recently and have seen a bit of bad BC threads now that they have been out awhile. I haven't used anything Manley in a DSM but have in V8/turbo V6 and no problems so far. I went HKS/stock Evo stuff in my 2G head. That being said a friend used BC 280's and springs in his Evo that he beats the bag out of and to my knowledge they are still going strong, and stupid fast.

Ok well, now I don't know what head to use with the manley springs.

I got both the heads now.

Head #1
5k miles
BC Springs and Retainers
"OEM" valves
Clean!
Looks like it has been resurfaced a few times, but definitely recently. Like I was told

Head #2
10k miles
Manley Springs and Retainers
"OEM" valves
Golden color inside.
Has the same intake port size, but the exhaust port size is a little over 5mm bigger.
No noticeable resurfacing has been done.

Now I put "OEM" in quotations because the intake valves look different.
Heres some pictures
