I have a 96 Eclipse I bought a couple weeks ago and I don't know if it's base a GS or a RS
It's a non turbo, it has a tachometer, cruise control, disc brakes all around, the low spoiler, and is FWD.

Anything else you need to know just tell me.
Thanks for your time and help

Well, people spoon fed you, a growing trend here. I still recommend you decode the VIN and try to learn something.

Then you should probably not post an answer in the what car do I have thread!
RS, GS, GST, GSX, Spyder, Spyder GST and a crappy anniversary edition that sucked.

From the most obvious the GS has a rear wiper. And all the small "luxury things".

Before my GST I owned an RS but I totaled it. But mine was the old school manual windows and manual locks type LOL. And oh yeah the antenna didn't go down it looked like a damn satellite searcher or something haha.

Ok so I have a GS and also found out that my friend has the RS thanks to y'all, but I also got a question that's been bugging the crap out of me and my other friend.

Why did they turn the motor around in other cars? For ex. my motor is on passenger side and trans is on the driver side but we seen a car that the motor was on the driver side and trans on the passenger side.

Whats with this and why did they do it?

Your cars, the RS and GS, are equipped with a Chrysler engine, the 420A. It is a 2.0L non-turbo engine found in 1995-1999 Talons and Eclipses, as well as some other vehicles.

The cars with the engine "flipped around" is the 4G variant (the 63 or the 64), a Mitsubishi engine. In the U.S. the 4G63 is a turbo engine in 1995-1999 Talons and Eclipses; the 4G64 is a non-turbo 2.4L found in non-turbo Spyder Eclipses.

They are two completely different machines.

I have an anniversary edition, not a 4g63, but still a nice car. Dont see why you would say that it sucks.

RS is a base model it has roll up windows no cruise control or any special electronic thing in it, GS has all that and has power windows and all that special stuff, has 4 wheel disc brakes as well :) I also don't think RS's have sun roofs, RS's are much lighter too!

Alright,

This is the newbie forum, newbies are to be expected, am I right?

If you don't want to deal with it, stay in the other forums that are focused on specific things. We don't need people scaring away new members from this forum because the people are "mean". Everyone has been there at one point.

Anyways, here's some quick facts.
Go here if you want to learn almost everything you'd need to know about these cars.

Your car is equipped with a Chrysler engine known as a 420a, and your car is also known as a 2nd gen. The car pictured in my avatar would be a 1st gen. That being said, the turbo and or all wheel drive models of 2nd gens have the Mitsubishi 4g63 engine. The 1st gens came equipped with 1.8l, and 2.0's. They had both non turbo 4g63's and turbo 4g63s in 1st gens. 2nd gens only had non turbo 4g63's in Europe.

Any more questions, feel free to pm me!
