Which cars came with an EPROM ECU

I did a search and couldnt find it, I think I have seen it before but, here it goes.

What cars come with the Eprom ecu? Is it random? Later years? I don't understand?

Mistsu do it so they could do changes if they needed?

You can find them on ebay and still in junk yards but the problem with a junk yard is they dont want to let you open the ecu to check.

I have a 90 and didnt get a eprom even though my ecu #'s are listed as a possible eprom ecu.

On a 90 ecu its a little tougher. Someties if there an early unit they just have a goofy sticker so this may not apply, but typically in the lower LH corner I belive it was there will be either an A an M or an E. The E is a good way to tell its E-prom. Of sourse if you look inside and there is a 28 pin chip with say E931, E932, E748, etc on it thats the eprom. Hope this helps a little.

I have read that some 90 have eproms but it is rare. So does that mean that 91 and up have eproms. I looked at my ecu and it does not have an eprom chip in it. My question is what 1g dsm s have eprom ecu s.

Or do all dsms not have an eprom chip and you have to drill holes in the board and some how solder the chip in.

i believe there was a post on this about 3 weeks back from today. I dont want to give you the wrong info, but as i remember it was the 90s models who were the most reluctant to have them, and 91 sometimes had them, and 92 rarely ever had them, and they stoped it at 93 and 94, and then recontinued eprom in 95-96, and then stopped it again at the end of 96 hit and never restarted them after 96 models. Sorry if im not 100 percent acurate with that answer because my computer is WAY too slow to run a search for you real quick its freezing, but Im pretty sure that info is right unless someone begs to differ....

Also i never heard of drilling into the ecu board to add eprom because i believe the non eprom ecus are constructed as one unit where it doesnt accept add on chips. And im sure the ecus are very sensitive. intricate, and delicate so drilling them doesnt sound too desireable.

Are you 100 percent sure you verified that yours wasnt eprom, like you know what to look for?
Since you have a 92 its possible you have eprom just very unlikely.

nah you have to get a E-prom board out of a 1g that had it put in from factory they are pretty easy to find. as far as i know you cant make you own eprom board its got to come with it built in.

So the only 1g dsms that have an eprom chip in them are some 90s, 91s, and a few 92s. The most likley year is a 91. And 93 and 94 for sure do not have eprom ecus.

There is a 90 talon awd purple with grey trim at the local junk yard, I guess that I will have to look at this one.

The 1990 ECU are different from the 1991-1994, I would get one that is a 91 or 92

try checking the classifides and ask around on here. also check(call) junk yards and iv known quite a few people who have gottten them off ebay and had no probs what so ever

I know this is about 9 years old but hoping so,one one will see this. I have a 1999 spyder eclipse non turbo 4g64. What ecu came with this car? Is it flashable like the 99 gst black box ecu?
