As the title states. I am doing a 4G64 head swap in my 93 eclipse and to save me time and money i am looking for a 4G64 DOHC car that it came with.

so i dont have to get new pistons that way i can just use it like that since the valve marks arent the same.

well i was using wikipedia but then it didnt tell me DOHC or SOHC

and to correct the people the spyder is the SOHC

so i am going to do the head swap on a 4G64 to put in my car

I know for sure a lot of 94 Galants got em (supposedly they had them up to 98)... I actually worked on one

WIKIPEDIA said:
Production in the United States began on May 24, 1993 when the first seventh generation Galant rolled off the assembly line in Normal, Illinois. In 1994, a slightly upgraded GS version was available with a 160 HP twin cam engine, speed-sensitive steering, rear stabilizer bar, and an available manual transmission.

I believe these were 7-bolt, but not absolutely sure because I didn't take out the tranny

I've also heard that certain Spyders had 2.4L DOHC

Some 1994 galants came with the DOHC 7bolt 4g64, no other years. No DSM has ever had a DOHC 4g64 stock.
Hyundai engines (g4cs) were SOHC

The DOHC 4g64 is hard to find. and if swapped, keep in mind that the internals are NA - high CR, weak ring lands.

i wasnt i guess reading that hard on that one but i really thank you for that hopefully the closest you pull it place has a good running 2.4L DOHC 4G64

A few weeks ago someone was asking where they could pick up some 4g64 dohc valves. I did some research looking to help and it was a difficult part to find. Judging by this, I'd recommend staying away from this swap. It seems like more of a hassle than it's worth and there are a lot of people who are just machining their stock bottom ends and swapping crank, pistons, and rods to make a 2.3 stroker. I've got a good pdf about this but it's too large to post. PM me if you'd like it. Good luck.

well that is what i am doing once i get the 4G64 block and pistons and crank and all

i am just placing the 4G63 head on it and blocking up those oil passages with freeze plugs

but its really not that complicated i have been researching it i am going to get a multi layer head gasket thicker so i can lower compression and turbo it

i am hoping it all goes planned like i have it

Yeah that's actually a good plan. Some people on this forum will probably criticize it, but don't let that stop you... ps. you can actually stack MLS gaskets, even take 2 apart and use two center layers

I'm in the process of building a 6 bolt 4g64. Bored, forged internals, everything, and a 4g63t head swap.

Afaik, the only car that came with a DOHC 4g64 is the 94 Galant GS (this was a 7 bolt). The 4g63 head will bolt right up to a 6 bolt 4g64 or g4cs w/o having to block any passages.

The only 4g64 car that came with the DOHC is the 94 Galant GS and there's only a few left in the world. I have one myself that i am currently trying to turbo charge and the good thing about it is that a lot of the 95 to 99 Eagle Talon TSi parts bolt right on, even the ECU is interchangeable, it has the same connections.

You can even take the AWD and bolt it on to the Galant cause i did it to mine. You just got to get a longer drive shaft made
