I've looked at the tech articles and i also searched for the answer and didn't get a strait answer. i want to get rid of power steering on my awd and I'm wondering if there's by any chance possibility of swapping an rs manual rack into my car with no problems?... if not i herd before on this site that the miata guys "depower" their racks but i cant find the article anywhere and has anyone here done it?

if i cant find any replacement then ill just look the lines together but want to see if there's an alternative.

Eliminating PS is just foolish, don't do it, you will hate it.

If your dead set on it, I do remember a thread not too long ago where a person was making custom manual racks, basically rebuilding them to like new, packing some fluid and then welding it shut. Not at all like a manual rack but a better idea than just looping or unhooking the lines.

ive owned 2 muscle cars with no ps so its nothing new to me i just want to simplify the engine as much as possible... plus im looking for other options like the miata method like mentioned.

Having a car with no PS will be easier to turn than a car with PS that is removed. Hope that made sense. Almost all the 2g guys like myself have to loop the lines.

perfect sense thanx for the input and yeah im thinking if i cant find alternative looping the lines will be last resort. how do you like or feel the toughness of steering with looped lines?

Its not terrible LOL. Its definitely better then just removing the belt. But with a decent tire it takes a little arm to get it around during tight low speed turns, like parking lots.

I have about 200lbs removed from the front of my car too, which has to help some. To me its worth it for the weight loss and the amount of clutter it removes from the engine bay.

Ive seen alot of nice engine bays ruined by the ugly ass p/s pump sitting right up front staring at you like a huge zit on a runway models face.

Hah, i too have read te thread on thay guy who was making up manual racks for dsmers, cant remember where to. He was also offering people to come and try his car to see if they'd want one. But im sure the search button will help ya out. I believe he was ordering in some type of rack for a mustang? Feel free to chime in on this if im wrong.

I've thaught about looping them for more room in the bay. If my wastegate hits, then I'll loop them. But for the mean time I'll just keep it. I had a dsm with broken ps and it wasnt that bad. My buddy has a del sol but doesn't weigh much.

What did you remove that was 200 pounds worth?
