When you change your pads ladies , do you guys shave the rotor down everytime ?

When you get your pads changed i had alot of people telling me that i should shave the rotor down so that the pads will soon contour with the rotor. I was like ummmmm no after i just paid for new rotors (thinking in my head why shave my money away) . I was just curious if others guys did it.

If your car is ready for a 'brake' job. Then you should turn your rotors. It will not only save you the vibration factor, but it will also help to not wear your pads at an accelerated rate.

If you bought NEW rotors and NEW pads, then you should not have to turn the rotors before installing them.:thumb:

It is almost the same concept as putting in a new clutch on a used flywheel surface. It can be done, but it is not rcommended at all.

A shop should tell you if they are out of spec. If there is even a question about it just get them machined.

NO - do that only if they are "pulsing" - I persoanlly just change the Rotor instead of turning it down - Aftermarket Rotors are very inexpensive these days.

they do pulse a little if i break hard other then that they seem fine.

Yeah, sorry I should have cleared that up a little.

If you are using the OEM rotors, turn them. Turning a rotor doesn't mean switching sides, it is when they shave a VERY TINY bit of material off of the rotor to flatten the surface because of the heat warping them.

If you are getting aftermarket (brembo slotted/drilled) I would jsut pick up a new set. They are very cheap and if you have put 30k+ on a set of brakes then they have served there purpose.:thumb:

i know i got 30K on them . I will try just turning them when i do my pads and yes they are OEM, thanks.

It would more worth your while to just buy brembo drilled rotors if you're going to put money into it.

well i try and not sink too much money into bling blingin my car. The stockers are fine for now. I put more into performance and right now i am in need of DP badly . So income tax will be that and a paint job which is needed very badly black is fading to white ! NOooooooooooooooo

I'm and ignorant or either lazy, I just go buy new rotors, cuz they run for bout 20$ a piece at murrays

you better listen to this guy he know what he's talking about :thumb: , yes you see drilled ones on high performance cars like the porsche 911, but those are made out of materials (ceramics, carbon) that are not prone to cracking and are way more expensive!

yeah i wasnt into the drilled ones , i heard that before. I figured that the OEM would be best but cheapest ? I mean dont get me wrong i dont want to go too cheap figuring that it would save my life and all :D Afer aftermarkets worth it over OEM , i guess thats my question.

You need to check and make sure that you don't exceed the minimum thickness spec of the rotor after you machine them. If you do, there won't be enough material to absorb the heat generated when you brake, and also, they will warp. If they are close to the minimum spec, just get new rotors. They're so cheap these days that it's not even worth machining your used ones.

well im guessing that NAPA can check them right ? and i should only need front rotors right ? I know most braking is done from front.

i dont underrstand what you guys mean by getting them machined , i was just going to get them checked if they needed to be replaced.

Well I don't know. A micrometer isn't cheap, at least a good one isn't. Plus, you would hardly ever use it again. For the money you spend on it and then the price of machining your rotors, if you can and need to, you can get a nice set of aftermarket rotors. Just get regular stock replacements, no need for that drilled and slotted fancy stuff. Of course, you can always return the micrometer, but I never said that.:shhh:
